Chapter 186 Dermot Came
"Dr. Kyte? You mean Evelyn? What happened to her?" Dermot became serious and stared at the village chief.
The village chief was scared by his gaze but realized what was happening and said, "Dr. Kyte is buried under the collapsed house."
Dermot could barely stand, "What did you say?"
Dermot never expected that he had rushed over but still arrived too late.
Dermot didn't have time to ask more questions. He directed people to start digging. He had arrived in such a hurry that there were no large digging machines on the plane, only some simple tools.
But even so, they were much stronger than what the villagers had originally used.
Everyone received their tools, without saying much, they lowered their heads and started to rescue people.
Under the ruins, Evelyn curled up in a corner, holding Ethan tightly. Her right shin was in pain, but she didn't have time to think about that. Instead, she looked around, searching for an opportunity to escape.
But she became desperate again. The surroundings were too tightly buried; she couldn't find an exit.
"Eve, am I going to die here?" Ethan trembled with fear. It was pitch black all around, and only the warmth from Evelyn's body kept him from losing consciousness.
"No, Grandpa Village Chief and the other uncles and aunties in the village will save us. Ethan, you must stay strong and believe in yourself. Your little sister is waiting for you outside," Evelyn hugged him tightly, comforting him and giving him confidence.
But deep down, she was worried. Aside from the ongoing aftershocks, the degree of burial made it difficult for the villagers to dig them out without any proper equipment.
Evelyn regretted a bit. If she had known this, she should have brought Ethan out along with Mia the first time, instead of going back one by one and wasting precious time.
Taking a deep breath, she knew she had to stay calm and at least survive until the village chief found them!
Time passed minute by minute, and Evelyn began to feel her breath becoming increasingly difficult. She knew that the oxygen was running out, and at this rate, they might not be able to make it out with Ethan.
"Eve, I'm so thirsty," Ethan spoke weakly.
A weak voice came through, his condition was worse than Evelyn's, not only because he had been beneath her for a longer time, but because he was younger, his situation was very bad.
"Ethan, hold on a little longer, the village elders will be here soon." She knew that such comfort was ineffective, but she couldn't find any better solace.
Ethan didn't speak anymore, Evelyn became worried, "Ethan?"
"Ethan?" No one answered, and Evelyn felt a chill down her spine.
She sat Ethan up and pinched his acupuncture point. With two coughs, the child slowly woke up.
"Eve, I feel bad." His weak voice came through, and Evelyn was heartbroken.
"It's alright, we will be fine." In such an environment, not to mention a child, even she couldn't control her despair.
a noise came from above. Evelyn reacted and shouted, "We're here!"
"That's Dr. Kyte's voice!" someone shouted.
"We're here, we're over here!"
The noises from above grew louder and Evelyn let go of the tension she had been holding.
Light appeared ahead, the entrance she had come in through was dug open, and someone walked in.
Against the light, Evelyn couldn't see the person's appearance clearly, she just felt a strange familiarity, familiar enough that she couldn't confirm.
