Chapter 1090: Still Not Willing to Confess

But Brandon, quick on his feet, snatched up the gun and bolted outta there.

He popped off a few shots at Tommy on his way out, but who knows if he actually hit him.

Right now, Brandon's main gig was getting the hell outta dodge; if Dermot got his hands on him, it was game over.

So, Brandon booked it.

Dermot? He couldn't care less; Brandon was never his main target anyway.

The dungeon lights flicked on, and Dermot spotted Tommy huddled in the corner. Tommy had taken a bullet to the thigh, but it wasn't anything too gnarly.

Dermot strolled over and looked down at him. "Still think your boss is gonna come save your sorry ass?"

Tommy kept his mouth shut.

He was a wreck and didn't feel like chatting.

Dermot wasn't in the mood to waste time. "Even now, you won't spill the beans?"

"Don't bother. I ain't saying squat." Tommy had lost all faith in Joshua, but he still had his code.

Dermot frowned, not expecting Tommy to be this stubborn. It was a real pain in the ass.

Trying to keep his cool, Dermot laid out how Joshua had played Evelyn. He finished with, "You got a wife and kid, right? Ever think about what'd happen if they got played like this?"

Switching from tough guy to softie, Dermot tried a different angle.

Gotta admit, family was Tommy's weak spot. After hearing Dermot's story, he chuckled, "No wonder he pulled that crazy stunt back then. Makes sense now."

Back then, he and the other guys were clueless. They didn't ask, but they were curious. Joshua never filled them in.

Now, hearing it from Dermot, Tommy finally got the full picture.

He thought it was a joke.

"I just wanted to save the one I love, you get that?" Dermot pressed on, seeing Tommy start to crack.

Maybe Dermot's heartfelt act was too good, or maybe Tommy was just done being stubborn. Finally, Tommy spilled everything.

Dermot had it all on tape, so he wasn't worried about Tommy backtracking.

But he still wanted Evelyn to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

"Tommy, I'll bring her here later. Can you repeat what you just told me?" Dermot asked, all sincere-like.

Tommy was caught off guard but nodded. "Sure."

Dermot left the dungeon, had someone drag Tommy out, patch up his leg, and then went off to find Evelyn.

He was pumped.

Joshua's lies were about to blow up.

He had a witness from Joshua's crew and proof of the doc at Golombia Hospital getting paid off. This time, he was sure Evelyn wouldn't ignore it.

But when he found Evelyn, she and Ruby were already plastered. In that state, forget listening to Tommy, they could barely stand.

"Perfect timing; take Evelyn home." Ruby was a bit surprised to see him but didn't think much of it. She still trusted Dermot.

Dermot took Evelyn from Ruby and was about to leave when Ruby dropped a bomb, "You probably don't know, Joshua asked Evelyn to go abroad with him. If you don't wanna lose her, you better act fast. From what I see, Evelyn's likely to say yes."

Evelyn's sense of duty was off the charts. She couldn't stand the thought of Joshua being stuck in a wheelchair because of her. She'd sacrifice her own happiness if it meant giving him a shot at a better life.
