Chapter 1077: No One Likes Being Manipulated

Back at Joshua's villa, he was waiting for Evelyn, which made her a bit embarrassed. "Joshua, you're still up?"

"No, I'm waiting for you," he said with a gentle smile that could make anyone get lost in his eyes.

Evelyn sometimes wondered if she would've fallen for Joshua if she hadn't met Dermot. He was her childhood crush, after all. It seemed silly now, but she still had a soft spot for him.

But that "what if" would never happen. Her heart belonged to someone else by the time Joshua returned.

"Is your headache better?" Evelyn asked.

Joshua nodded, indicating he was fine.

"Did you tell Aidan about Phoebe's pregnancy?" He knew why Evelyn went to see Aidan and was curious about his reaction.

Evelyn sighed. "Yes."

"Looks like Aidan doesn't want to take responsibility," Joshua concluded. If Aidan was willing, Evelyn wouldn't look so worried.

Evelyn sat on the sofa, looking troubled. "Aidan said that whether the baby is his or not, he won't accept it."

"I get it," Joshua said, not surprised. Aidan had always been like that. If he wasn't into someone, not even a pregnancy would change his mind. Even if she had the baby, he wouldn't care.

Men understood men. Evelyn sighed again. "Well, now that there's a baby, if Aidan wasn't so against Phoebe, maybe they could try."

Whether it would work was uncertain, but trying wouldn't hurt. Who knew, they might actually hit it off?

"No one likes being manipulated," Joshua said, then corrected himself. "Most people don't."

Some might fall for it, but Joshua wasn't one of them.

Evelyn understood, which made her even more worried.

What was she supposed to do now? Was she really going to let Phoebe go through labor alone?

Evelyn grew up without her parents, so she didn't want Aidan's baby to grow up without a father. It would be cruel.

"Evelyn, you can't control everything. Just do your best and let things play out," Joshua said, noticing her concern.

Evelyn nodded, knowing worrying wouldn't help. "Joshua, go to bed. It's late."

"Okay," Joshua nodded, tired from waiting for her.

Evelyn pushed Joshua upstairs to his room. After that, Brandon took over, so she didn't have to take care of Joshua. Since moving in, she hadn't really taken care of him.

Evelyn lay in her room, thinking about whether she should meet Phoebe tomorrow.

Her phone rang, and she guessed it was probably Dermot.

"Evelyn."

When she answered, Dermot's voice came through. "Just got back?"

"Yes, I went to Aidan's place and just got back," Evelyn replied, walking to the window. Sure enough, Dermot was standing across the street.

Dermot waved at her, smiling brightly.

"Have you had dinner?" Evelyn asked, worried he might have forgotten to eat.

Dermot was pleased by her concern. "Of course I have. I always listen to you."
