Chapter 1299: It's None of My Business
His stare was intense, like, seriously intense. The second Evelyn locked eyes with him, she was totally hooked.
The vibe in the room shifted big time, turning all romantic and heavy.
Before Evelyn could even process what was happening, Dermot's lips were already on hers.
It was a soft kiss, but it felt like it lasted forever.
Right then, the phone rang, totally ruining the moment, and Dermot felt like strangling whoever was calling Evelyn!
Evelyn snapped back to reality and awkwardly pushed Dermot away. "I gotta take this."
Dermot's face turned dark, and he didn't say a word.
Evelyn knew he was pissed, but she couldn't just ignore the call.
Trying to keep it together, she picked up the phone and saw it was Niall. She answered right away.
"Evelyn! Lily's missing!" Niall's voice was frantic on the other end.
Evelyn was shocked. How could Lily be missing right after sorting out her family drama?
"Don't freak out, I'm on my way." Evelyn hung up, grabbed her coat, and got ready to leave.
Dermot was right behind her. Even though he was super annoyed, he couldn't just sit back since it was someone Evelyn cared about.
"I'll go. You need to rest." Dermot was usually more wiped out than she was, and Evelyn hoped he could chill at home.
But Dermot wasn't having it and was already in the driver's seat. "Let's go check it out."
Evelyn had no choice but to go along.
The car roared to life and headed straight for the hospital.
In the ward, Niall was staring at a letter, looking totally out of it.
He hadn't expected to wake up and find Lily gone, with just this letter left on the pillow.
The letter said she felt unworthy of Niall and that he deserved someone better, so she decided to leave and asked Niall not to look for her.
Niall thought it was ridiculous.
Who said she wasn't worthy? She was the only one perfect for him.
When Evelyn and Dermot arrived, they found Niall still sitting by the bed, completely lost. Lily's departure had left him shattered, prompting him to call Evelyn.
"Niall, what happened?" Evelyn asked.
Niall didn't say a word, just handed her the letter.
Evelyn took it and skimmed through it, feeling even more helpless. "Didn't you tell her I was handling her parents' issues?"
"I did." Niall thought Lily had understood, but clearly, she hadn't.
Evelyn sighed. If she had known, she would've come to the hospital directly to tell them the issue was resolved.
"Don't worry, I'll get people to look for her. She doesn't have many places to go in the city, so we'll find her soon." Evelyn tried to comfort Niall.
Then, Evelyn and Dermot started mobilizing people to search. With their current influence, there was almost no one in the city they couldn't find.
"Where's Aidan? Didn't you call him?" Evelyn asked.
Niall smiled bitterly. "Aidan said he's done dealing with my problems, and Lily's well-being isn't his concern."
Evelyn fell silent.
It seemed her previous words had hurt Aidan, so he hadn't shown up these past few days. Now, even when Niall called him, he made it clear he wouldn't get involved.
After they found Lily, Evelyn thought she should go see Aidan and clear things up.
