Chapter 172 Leaving for Several Months
Evelyn found it hard to swallow, especially when she saw Natalie constantly serving Dermot and speaking to him in a flirtatious manner. She regretted agreeing to come over for dinner with Grandpa Doyle tonight.
Unable to help herself, she looked at Dermot and noticed that he neither responded nor rejected Natalie's actions. He was acting like a scumbag.
As she was criticizing him in her mind, Dermot suddenly looked up and their eyes met. Evelyn felt caught red-handed and quickly looked away, pretending as if nothing happened.
Grandpa Doyle didn't pay attention to the strange atmosphere at the table. Instead, he looked at Evelyn and asked, "Evelyn, are you free tomorrow? Will you accompany Grandpa Doyle to go climbing?"
"Grandfather, I'm afraid I can't." Evelyn put down her chopsticks and said, "The hospital has sent me to provide medical assistance in a rural area, and I may not be able to come back for a few months."
"Leaving for several months?" Grandpa Doyle was surprised and couldn't help but look at Dermot.
Dermot, of course, heard Evelyn's words. He stiffened for a moment but quickly was calm, "Dr. Kyte is truly kind-hearted. Do they need a famous doctor like you to go to a rural area for medical assistance?"
He felt that this kind of charity work was not necessary for Evelyn.
Most of the time, they send those unimportant doctors. After all, doctors like Evelyn leaving for a few months would be a major loss for the hospital and the patients in Moris City.
"Since it's a free clinic, it shouldn't matter whether the doctors are famous or not. If we have to measure charity with benefits, what's the difference from a show?" She looked at Dermot calmly.
She wasn't being polite to Dermot, but in Grandpa Doyle's presence, he couldn't do anything to her either.
Dermot sensed the sarcasm in her words, implying that he only cares about personal gain, which infuriated him.
He glared at her angrily and said, "It seems like I, as the major shareholder, haven't been paying much attention to the hospital lately. No one even bothers to inform me."
"Although Mr. Doyle is the major shareholder of Moris Hospital, it would be best if you don't meddle in internal affairs. After all, you don't have much understanding of this field," she said.
Dermot gripped the chopsticks, and his chilling gaze fell on Evelyn, intimidating.
However, Evelyn was unfazed. What could he do to her in front of Grandpa Doyle?
"Ahem!"
Seeing that the situation was not right, Grandpa Doyle interrupted with a dry cough, "Evelyn is right. It’s worthwhile to go to the countryside for a free clinic. It can help more people in need. Dermot, you should learn more from Evelyn."
"I understand, Grandpa," Dermot nodded, "When I go back, I'll increase the amount of charity for this year. I believe it should help more people."
The Doyle Group has done a lot of charity every year, but they never publicized it, so people outside don't know. Dermot now feels that he should promote it, otherwise, everyone would think he's a despicable capitalist.
While the three of them were still talking, Natalie couldn't get a word in.
She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that the conversation between the three of them was like a family chatting, especially Dermot and Evelyn. They seemed confrontational, but it felt more like a couple's banter.
Her heart was heavy. Natalie didn't know if Dermot would marry her or not, especially after seeing his attitude towards Evelyn, she became even more worried.
"Alright, I'm feeling a bit tired. I'll go upstairs to rest," Grandpa Doyle stood up and prepared to leave.
Just a few steps into his walk, he instructed Dermot, "Take Evelyn to tour around Doyal Mansion."
After saying that, he went upstairs to the bedroom. As for Natalie, he didn't even glance at her the whole time.
