Chapter 905 She Had Made Trouble for Herself.
"I don't have any issues on my end, but Sarah seems to be having some trouble. If you have time, could you help her out?"
Sarah was handling the clothing department now, and Luke wasn't involved, so he thought Evelyn could step in.
Evelyn asked, "What's the problem?"
Luke replied, "Something about her ex-husband. Her project's stuck."
He knew little since they all managed their own areas. Sarah hadn't asked for his help, so he didn't offer.
From what he said, Evelyn could roughly guess what the problem was. "Alright, I'll handle it."
"Cool." Luke shifted topics. "Do you like the house?"
Evelyn nodded. "Yeah, it's nice."
Luke smiled, not surprised.
As they chatted, Jennifer, who was sitting nearby, felt like she had become invisible. She wanted to join in but couldn't find a way.
Evelyn noticed and felt anxious for her, so she said, "Even though the company's growing, you should think about marriage. Don't put it off."
Luke frowned. "Are you worried about my marriage now?"
Evelyn replied seriously, "Of course. You're important to me. I care about your marriage."
If she wasn't worried about Luke's reaction, she'd have pushed Jennifer towards him.
Luke sneered. "No need. Worry about yourself."
Evelyn glanced at Jennifer, who was still quiet, feeling a bit speechless.
She pinched Jennifer under the table and gave her a look.
Jennifer, confused, asked, "What's up?"
Evelyn fell silent.
Jennifer caught on, blushing as she looked at Luke. "Mr. Doyle, do you have someone you like??"
This was crucial for her.
Luke looked between Jennifer and Evelyn, then asked, "Do you like me?"
Jennifer was stunned. That was direct.
"Yes." She nodded, barely audible.
"I know." Luke's response was vague.
Jennifer was confused. She thought, 'Is that a rejection?'
Luke didn't leave her guessing. "We're not a match."
Jennifer was heartbroken. "How do you know? You don't even know me."
"Just not a match. It's not about knowing you." Luke barely looked at her.
When Evelyn sent Jennifer to Luke for training, he didn't like her. Now that she was gone, he didn't want her back in his life.
Jennifer was near tears. Luke was her first crush, and she was rejected so thoroughly.
She turned to Evelyn. "Ms. Kyte, help me out."
Evelyn sipped her coffee and sighed. What could she say?
Could she really make Luke agree to be with Jennifer? Matters of the heart weren't up to her.
"Luke, you don't have to reject her so completely. Give it a try." Evelyn reluctantly spoke for Jennifer. After all, she had invited them to dinner.
She realized she had made trouble for herself.
