Chapter 39

"What happened?" Evelyn was filled with strong anxiety, her heart beating uncontrollably faster.

"Your patient this afternoon had an accident," Marina said anxiously. "After you left this afternoon, his mother insisted on transferring him to another hospital, and we had no choice but to agree."

"We thought it was just a concussion, so there shouldn't have been any problem if he went to another hospital. But just now, we got a call from the emergency center saying that a patient at a private hospital had major bleeding during surgery."

"When we asked for the patient's information, we found out that it was your patient's younger brother. His mother actually took him to an unlicensed small hospital for surgery!"

Marina was angry; this was simply outrageous. What kind of mother would do this?

Evelyn's face also changed, and she asked urgently, "Where is he?"

"He's still on the way. The doctor in the ambulance said the situation is very serious, so they told us to prepare. That's why I came to find you," Marina said.

Evelyn didn't have time to speculate what exactly happened. She ordered Marina, "Prepare blood in the blood bank, notify everyone to get ready. As soon as the patient arrives, we will immediately go into surgery."

Although she hadn't seen the patient yet, she already guessed that the situation wasn't optimistic.

There was no need for surgery, yet they were forced to undergo one. What's the difference between this and intentional killing?

She didn't know why the mother did this, or how she managed to convince the doctors at that hospital to do the surgery, but in this situation, major bleeding meant that they had hit a major vessel. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the patient's life was in danger.

As soon as she finished speaking, Evelyn was about to go to the emergency department to wait for the patient, but Keith stopped her. "Dr. Kyte, you..."

"Sorry, Mr. Kartland, I'm afraid I don't have time to have dinner with you today. Let's do it another day, and I'll treat you." She had no choice. She couldn't leave in this situation.

Keith didn't say much and just nodded. "It's okay, you're busy. There will be other opportunities."

Evelyn stood up and left, leaving Keith holding the flowers behind. He looked a little pitiful.

It was the first time he really felt that being a doctor wasn't easy. He never expected that they would be so busy, nor did he expect that such great energy was hidden inside Evelyn's weak body. It was as if she wouldn't get tired.

At that moment, no matter why he approached Evelyn, he sincerely admired this woman.

The sound of an ambulance came into the hospital, and Evelyn and the others had been waiting for a long time. When the ambulance door opened, someone grabbed Evelyn.

"It's all your fault, you heartless doctor. If you hadn't refused to perform surgery on my son, he wouldn't have had an accident," the woman cried, holding onto Evelyn tightly, as if she was afraid that she would run away.

"If anything happens to my son, I won't let you off," she said, and several taxis stopped at the hospital entrance. The woman's relatives got out, and once they arrived, they surrounded Evelyn without saying anything.

"Are you crazy? Your son doesn't even need surgery. It was you who insisted on taking him to an unlicensed hospital for surgery. Now that something has happened, you blame Dr. Kyte?" Marina was about to say, "Are you insane?"

"I don't care. Anyway, if something happens to my son, it's your fault. You have to take responsibility," the woman refused to let go of Evelyn, saying everything she could.

Evelyn felt that she had already kept her temper under control over the years and wouldn't easily lose her temper.

But today, she really couldn't control herself.

She held the woman's hand with her slender fingers and squeezed it slightly, pulling her hand away from her body. The woman couldn't help but cry out in pain. "Ow, it hurts! Let me go!"

"I understand your anxiety as a patient's mother, but if you continue to prevent me from checking on the patient, don't blame me for being impolite!" Her voice was icy, and the woman couldn't help but shiver. For some reason, she felt that the person in front of her was very scary.
