Chapter 998: It Seems You Know More About It Than I Do

"He's still in the ICU. You should eat first and visit him tomorrow," Dermot said, eyeing Evelyn, who was still recovering but eager to see Joshua. He felt uneasy.

He didn't argue, knowing Evelyn's strong sense of gratitude. Like him, she hated feeling indebted, especially in life-and-death situations.

Evelyn shook her head. "I'll just look from outside. I won't be at ease until I see him."

"Alright," Dermot sighed, knowing he couldn't stop her. If it made her feel better, what harm could it do?

Dermot helped Evelyn out of the room and headed to the ICU where Joshua was.

Since Evelyn was a doctor at the hospital, she was allowed to see Joshua.

She didn't go in; she just looked through the small window at the door.

"I don't know how to face him." Joshua hadn't woken up yet and didn't know he'd be in a wheelchair for life.

Evelyn couldn't imagine his devastation when he found out.

Dermot held her, his heart heavy. "It's okay, Evelyn. No one will blame you."

"I know he won't blame me," but she blamed herself.

She blamed herself for being careless, for getting kidnapped. If it weren't for her, Joshua wouldn't have suffered.

She wondered if everyone around her would become so unfortunate.

Dermot didn't know how to comfort her. He knew words wouldn't help. All he could do was hold her tightly, hoping she wouldn't leave.

When they returned to her room, the food had arrived. Dermot opened it and handed it to Evelyn. "Eat something. Remember, you're also a patient."

Evelyn nodded, but her gaze was distant as she ate.

Dermot sighed, "Evelyn, I know you're sad, but you need to take care of yourself. You've still got me. It breaks my heart to see you like this."

"Sorry, I just..." She couldn't handle Joshua's misfortune.

"Have they caught those people? Who's behind this?" Evelyn asked, a murderous intent in her eyes that startled Dermot.

He had never seen such a look in her eyes. Even when dealing with criminals, she only thought of justice, never revenge.

But now, Dermot had no doubt that if they found out who was behind this, Evelyn would take action herself.

Dermot shook his head. "No, those people were well-trained. Some escaped, the rest committed suicide."

"Suicide?"

"Death warriors?" Evelyn frowned, realizing the situation was more complex than she thought.

"Yes, probably," Dermot nodded. He hadn't found any leads yet.

Evelyn put down her utensils, losing her appetite. "Do you know if the Doyle family has such 'death warriors'?"

The attackers claimed to be sent by Randy, but Evelyn found it odd.

"They probably do. Not just the Doyle family; every family should have them," Dermot said.

"Really? The Kyte family doesn't," Evelyn had taken over the Kyte family but had never heard of 'death warriors.'

Dermot chuckled, "That might not be the case. Maybe your father just didn't tell you."

Evelyn blinked. "Seems you know more than I do."

"It's nothing. I just investigated and found that every family has them, but it's quite secretive," Dermot shared openly.

The Kyte family did have 'death warriors,' but for some reason, Blake hadn't handed them over to Evelyn.
