Chapter 1149: Who Would Believe It

He spoke so confidently that Evelyn was left speechless for a moment. "You sure about this? I mean, she's the one your savior trusted you with."

"So what? You think I'm..." He cut himself off, shaking his head. "Look, I'm not throwing my whole life away for this."

Evelyn knew exactly what he was hinting at—it was about her old promise to look after Joshua.

Evelyn pressed her lips together and kept quiet. Dermot better keep his word, or she'd be pissed.

Henry glanced at the two of them and, seeing neither was mad, said with a satisfied grin, "That's more like it. If there's a problem, talk it out. Never thought much of Cassie anyway."

Back then, Henry thought Dermot was way too into her, but no matter what he said, Dermot wouldn't listen.

Luckily, Dermot wasn't as dumb as before.

"Henry, you've got better judgment than Dermot," Evelyn said with a smirk.

"I never liked her, okay? You always thought I did," Dermot said, a bit annoyed.

"Well, your actions made me think that," Evelyn shot back. In the end, it was Dermot's fault.

Dermot opened his mouth to defend himself, but before he could say anything, Henry kicked him. "Hey, what's with the attitude? Evelyn's right."

Dermot shut up.

He wasn't even married to Evelyn yet, and he already had no say. If they did get hitched, would he have any voice at all?

What could he do?

One was his chosen wife, and the other was the grandpa who raised him. He couldn't afford to piss off either.

Dermot could only go along with it; there was no other way.

Seeing Dermot's frustration, Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, let's eat. Whether she comes back or not, it's none of our business."

"Yeah, Evelyn's right." Henry quickly agreed.

Dermot was speechless again. So now, whatever Evelyn said was right? Didn't Henry have any opinions of his own?

After dinner, Henry called Dermot into the study.

“Dermot, I'm warning you; if Cassie really comes back, you better stay away from her,“ Henry said, his face serious, a far cry from his earlier smiles at the dinner table.

Dermot felt hurt. "Grandpa, am I that unreliable?"

"If you were reliable, I'd have great-grandkids by now," Henry snorted, clearly annoyed.

Dermot pressed his lips together, unable to respond.

"You divorced Evelyn because of Cassie back then. If you break up with Evelyn again because of her, even if I can't kill you, I'll find a way to deal with her," Henry said. Though he hadn't taken action against anyone in years, he wouldn't hesitate to do so for his grandson's happiness.

Dermot quickly stepped forward to reassure him. "Grandpa, don't worry. I really have no interest in her."

"And about the divorce back then, who said it was because of her? I divorced Evelyn because we had no feelings for each other." At that time, he hadn't even met Evelyn. From the day they got married, he had been thinking about divorce, and it had nothing to do with Cassie.

But unfortunately, Henry didn't believe him.

To the outside world, if Dermot didn't like another woman, why would he ignore such a good wife at home?

Who would believe that?
