Chapter 1038: Actually, I Regret It Too
Evelyn wanted to convince him, but seeing Lily next to Niall, she just said, "Do what you think is best."
As Evelyn walked away, Niall felt conflicted.
"Niall, I'm sorry," Lily said, looking at the silent Niall.
She knew Niall and Aidan's fallout was because of her. Even though Aidan and the others never said anything, Lily guessed they knew about her past.
She regretted it because she saw how much Niall genuinely cared for her and wanted to be with her.
Over time, she realized she had feelings for him too. Seeing him in conflict with his family because of her made her feel guilty.
She wished her past was different, that she was innocent and pure. Maybe things would be different now.
"Lily, you don't need to apologize. It's not your fault." Niall had looked into Lily's past and understood her actions.
While her behavior was materialistic, Niall didn't think she was entirely wrong.
Everyone wants a better life, right?
Hearing Niall, Lily felt even more ashamed. She lowered her head and murmured, "I know; it's my fault."
"Lily."
"Niall, I really regret it," she said.
Niall felt heartache and pulled her into his arms. "I understand you. Don't worry, I won't leave you."
No matter how much Aidan and Evelyn opposed, he wouldn't leave her.
Lily hugged Niall back, her eyes slightly red. "Thank you."
She thought maybe God saw her struggles and sent Niall to save her.
In the kitchen, Evelyn couldn't hear their conversation but saw them hugging. She looked at Aidan beside her.
Aidan seemed oblivious to what was happening outside. Evelyn asked, "Aidan, are you still mad at Niall?"
"No," Aidan replied while chopping vegetables, his expression indifferent.
"Really?" She didn't believe it. The two hadn't spoken since they entered the house.
Aidan stopped chopping and looked at Niall in the living room. They had ended their hug. "I'm just really disappointed in him," he said.
Niall had always been the most innocent and happiest of the three. Both he and Evelyn had always tried to protect him.
But now, because of a woman, he was willing to throw away years of brotherly bond. Aidan felt deeply disappointed.
"Aidan, don't say that. Niall is just pursuing someone he likes. There's nothing wrong with that," Evelyn tried to comfort him. She didn't want the three of them to become estranged.
Aidan looked at her, frowning. "So, you support him being with Lily?"
"No," Evelyn shook her head. "I still don't like Lily."
Maybe in Niall's eyes, what Lily did was understandable, but Evelyn didn't think so.
"I think if Niall really insists on being with Lily, we shouldn't interfere too much. As long as they don't get married, what's wrong with just dating?" Evelyn thought of what Dermot had told her and decided to share it with Aidan.
Aidan frowned and asked, "You think they'll break up over time?"
"Isn't that likely?" Evelyn smiled. After all, when it comes to feelings, no one can be certain.
