Chapter 1337 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (12)

Phoebe was shaking a bit, and Evelyn caught on. She grabbed her hand. "You good?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Phoebe forced a smile, but she was totally not fine.

"Stop stressing. Aren't we throwing a baby shower for Theodore this weekend? Let's hit the mall and get you some new threads." Evelyn stood up, ditched her white coat, and got ready to bounce from the hospital with Phoebe.

It wasn't until they stepped outside and felt the breeze that Phoebe snapped out of it. "Wait, shopping? Aren't you on the clock?"

"Dermot owns a chunk of this hospital." Translation: Evelyn could work whenever she felt like it.

Sure, she usually stuck to her schedule 'cause she had a ton of patients needing her help.

But sometimes, like now, she could make an exception.

Whether Phoebe and Aidan ended up together or not, she had Theodore, her nephew. Evelyn felt she had to be there for Phoebe, to keep her from spiraling.

"Seriously, don't worry about it. I'm good. You should get back to work." Since her illness, shopping had lost its charm for her.

Evelyn didn't give her a chance to argue; she hustled her into the car. "Even if you don't care about yourself, think about Theodore. At his baby shower, all of Aidan's friends, family, and business peeps will be there. You really want them to see a checked-out mom?"

Everyone knew about Phoebe and Aidan's situation. The folks at the party wouldn't pry too much.

They all knew Phoebe was Theodore's mom and had zilch to do with Aidan.

But they'd still say hi to Phoebe, 'cause who knew what the future held?

"That many people? I thought it was just a small thing with you guys." Phoebe started to feel the jitters.

She hadn't dressed up in ages.

The car started rolling, and Evelyn shot her a side glance. "Aidan's going all out for this baby shower. You gotta look sharp and not embarrass Theodore, got it?"

"Okay, okay, I get it." Phoebe nodded. When it came to Theodore, she was all in.

They soon pulled up at the biggest mall in town. Phoebe wasn't hurting for cash, so when Evelyn tried to pay, she shut it down and bought a few outfits for Evelyn instead.

Evelyn didn't argue. She just smiled. "Don't worry, for these clothes, I'll have your back."

"Huh?" Phoebe was confused.

"Are you sure you're over Aidan?" Evelyn smirked. Phoebe hadn't said she liked him, but Evelyn could tell she still did.

In fact, her feelings for Aidan had only grown stronger with time.

Phoebe didn't expect that and blushed instantly. "Stop it. Aidan doesn't care about me."

With that, she bolted into the fitting room.

Evelyn shook her head, exasperated. Phoebe being this shy was a problem.

She'd worked hard to set up chances for Aidan and Phoebe to hang out, hoping Phoebe would be as bold as before. That way, Aidan might finally come around.

But who would've thought Phoebe would change so much?

Not only was she less forward, but she'd also become super shy?
