Chapter 29
"So what if I make the Barns family my enemy?" Keith's attitude was instantly hardened and became frightening.
Evelyn glanced at him, intrigued by this man.
Though frivolous in appearance, he was quite serious when getting down to the business.
During the tense standoff, Dermot and Craig came down from the second floor, both surprised at the sight of Keith.
"Well, you're late. Your efforts have been stolen." Craig gloated, trying to tease Dermot.
Dermot's face darkened, his gaze unkind. "Would Keith be so kindhearted?"
"You're right. No telling what nasty tricks he's pulling." Craig nodded. "It is pity that Dr. Kyte might be trapped.”
Dermot remained silent, looking at this from a distance.
"Dermot."
The moment Cassie saw Dermot, she walked toward him. She felt out of place at the gathering without Dermot by her side.
Yet Dermot just gave a perfunctory nod without any further talk. His gaze fell on Evelyn again.
"Keith!"
Seeing Keith act against him, Kenny got furious and sneered, "Don't tell me you've also fallen for her!"
Keith was silent for a long moment before impatiently retorting, "Wanna pick up a fight? Come on! Don't waste my time!"
"You!" Kenny was enraged.
However, Keith showed no fear, his gaze indifferent.
Just as Kenny was about to order his men to attack, an elderly man showed up and stopped him. He whispered, "Mr. Barns, Calm down. Offending the Kartlands would be unwise."
"But..." Kenny couldn't swallow his pride.
"We always get chances," The elderly man spoke firmly.
Kenny's face turned pale, his gaze shifting between Evelyn and Keith. After a moment, he said, "Consider yourselves lucky today. I'll let you off the hook."
Then he took his men away.
After Kenny walked away, Keith turned to Evelyn with an easy smile. "It seems you weren't very worried."
"Just a rabble. Nothing to worry about?" Had Keith not shown up abruptly, she would have beaten those guys into the ground.
However, she didn't blurt out her thoughts. After all, Keith had helped her. She would be a jerk if she had said that.
Keith nodded. "A rabble? You’re right."
With that, Keith grabbed a glass of champagne for Evelyn and one of red wine for himself. "Keith Kartland. May I have your name?"
Evelyn glanced at him, contemplating something.
"Rest assured. I'm not like Kenny." It appeared Keith knew Evelyn's concern and explained with a wry smile.
Hearing this, Evelyn curved her lips and raised her glass to Keith. "Dr. Kyte."
Although the man had helped her, Evelyn didn't intend to formally introduce herself. A name to address would suffice. Her real name wasn't important.
"Dr. Kyte?" Keith murmured, shaking his head in resignation. "Well."
He had plenty of time to figure it out.
Taking a seat next to Evelyn, Keith glanced at Dermot nearby, raising an eyebrow as if to boast.
At that moment, Dermot grasped Keith's true intentions.
Keith had deliberately approached Evelyn!
As for the reason.
Wasn't Keith fond of such schemes?
Keith had developed a deep resentment toward the entire Doyle family because of that incident years ago."
