Chapter 954: Shut up

After dropping Amelia off at the hospital and making sure she was okay, Evelyn left the ward.

It was the end of the workday, and she remembered she had dinner plans with Ruby and Alex. Since it was her idea, she couldn't be late.

She quickly packed her things and walked out of the hospital.

Dermot was already waiting at the entrance.

"Dr. Kyte, get in the car," Dermot called out, waving.

Evelyn rolled her eyes and said, "Let's go; we're heading to the restaurant first."

"Okay," Dermot nodded, opening the passenger door for her before getting into the driver's seat.

They drove off, leaving the hospital behind.

Across the street, Joshua sat in his car, watching them disappear. He didn't move for a long time.

"Mr. Garcia, we've taken heavy losses. Almost all our men from abroad are gone. We're in a dangerous spot," Brandon Hughes said, not noticing Joshua's unusual behavior.

Brandon, Joshua's right-hand man, had come back to the country with him.

"People are starting to investigate your identity. It won't be long before they find out who you are, and then a lot of enemies will come after you," Brandon added.

Joshua, a mercenary leader abroad for years, had made many enemies by killing for money.

It was fine when he was abroad, but now that he was back and had lost many men, if those enemies found him, the consequences would be dire.

Joshua just nodded.

Brandon, looking worried, said, "Mr. Garcia, why don't we go back?"

This wasn't their turf. With fewer team members and tighter government control, they couldn't operate as effectively in Libertonia.

Joshua seemed momentarily stunned, as if he hadn't considered going back.

"No need. Going back now would be a joke," Joshua sneered. Despite losing many men, he wasn't too worried.

Brandon wasn't reassured. He glanced at Joshua and, summoning his courage, asked, "Mr. Garcia, is your reluctance to leave related to that woman, Evelyn?"

Joshua's expression changed abruptly. "You're overstepping."

"Mr. Garcia, I know you're upset, but I have to say it," Brandon persisted. "Evelyn is not simple. You two are from different worlds and can never be together."

The more he spoke, the darker Joshua's expression became.

"Give it up, Mr. Garcia. You're so outstanding; you can have any woman you want. Why invest so much in Evelyn?" Brandon said.

Joshua's gun was already cocked, aimed at Brandon's head. "This is my business, understand?"

"Mr. Garcia."

"Shut up!" Joshua interrupted, not wanting to hear more. "Drive!"

Brandon gritted his teeth but said nothing more, though he felt a growing anger toward Evelyn.

If it weren't for Evelyn, Joshua wouldn't have returned to the country and wouldn't have lost so many men.

Most importantly, Joshua was already infatuated with Evelyn. Although nothing had happened yet, who could guarantee the future?

Should he do something? He couldn't just watch Joshua fall for Evelyn like this, could he?

Joshua had no idea what Brandon was thinking. At that moment, he was contemplating when he should go see Evelyn.
