Chapter 287 It's not Your Fault

Outside the ward, Evelyn held a thermal lunchbox in her hands, listening to Dermot's words from inside. Her mood was both happy and complicated. Standing outside the door, she didn't know whether she should push it open or not. Inside the ward, Grandpa Doyle listened to Dermot's words.

"Then, with a stern face, he remained silent for a long time.

"Even if it means sacrificing his own life in the end, do you still want to be with her?" Grandpa Doyle asked coldly, his tone not very kind.

Dermot nodded without hesitation.

Grandpa Doyle stared at him for a long time, uncertain how much time had passed, before finally sighing helplessly. "Fine, have it your way."

Seeing that his grandfather didn't really object, Dermot let out a sigh of relief. "Grandpa, you really don't need to worry. Your grandson, I'm not that weak. I can protect Evelyn and myself."

Grandpa Doyle didn't say anything, but he had already started contemplating.

They couldn't continue waiting like this. No one knew when Evelyn's existence would be discovered by the Colombian family. If their enemies found her first, there's no telling when Evelyn could encounter even greater danger.

Before, he didn't care, but now, it was about Dermot, and he had to care.

It seems that they needed to find a way to let the Colombian family know some information, and it would be best to have Evelyn acknowledge her heritage sooner rather than later.

"Take care of your injuries. I'll be going now." With a decision made, Grandpa Doyle no longer lingered.

"You're leaving just like that? Grandpa, don't you even want to ask about my injuries?" Dermot was speechless. Wasn't he here to see him? Why didn't he ask about his condition?

Grandpa Doyle couldn't be bothered with him. Just by looking at his previous confident appearance, he knew this kid was definitely fine. What was there to ask?

Grandpa Doyle opened the door of the hospital room and saw Evelyn standing outside. "Evelyn, are you alright?"

"Grandpa, I'm fine," Evelyn replied awkwardly. She was just wondering if she should hide, and then Grandpa Doyle pushed the door open, not giving her any time to hide.

Grandpa Doyle closed the door and smiled at Evelyn. "You heard what Dermot said earlier, didn't you?"

"Grandpa, I didn't..."

"I know you didn't eavesdrop on purpose." Grandpa Doyle smiled and didn't mean to reprimand her. "But you did hear, right?"

Evelyn bit her lip, then nodded, not denying it.

Grandpa Doyle was satisfied. He spoke with a bit of gravitas. "Dermot hasn't been right in the past, and I won't deny that. But you should have noticed his feelings for you these days, right?"
Evelyn nodded.

"In the end, the previous matters are partly my fault. I forced him to marry you, and he had anger in his heart. I understand, of course, that doesn't mean he's not at fault."

In any case, Dermot hasn't come to see Evelyn in the two years since their marriage, neglecting his wife. That's his fault, and no one can argue otherwise.

"But, people make mistakes. Dermot now knows he was wrong, and he truly fell in love with you."
Grandpa Doyle continued speaking, with a sincere tone.

Grandpa Doyle looked at Evelyn and said, "So, Evelyn, you really don't plan on giving him a chance to change for the better?"

Evelyn wondered how she could tell Grandpa Doyle that she was actually planning to give Dermot a chance. It was difficult for her to articulate.

"Grandpa, I know how good he is to me," Evelyn finally managed to say after a pause.

Grandpa Doyle sighed, "It's good that you know, after all, he is your grandson. It's only natural for me to worry, especially when I've seen him almost get into trouble multiple times because of you."
"Grandpa, I'm sorry, I..."

"It's not your fault, it's that boy's own choice," Grandpa Doyle waved his hand, not wanting Evelyn to apologize.
