Chapter 346 Calm Down
Evander's words exploded in Marina's mind, and her face was filled with disbelief. "What did you say? The Peterson family is struggling? What do you mean? Explain it to me!"
She had no idea about the state of the Peterson family's business, as her parents never mentioned it to her. She thought everything was normal.
But seeing Evander's smug look, Marina felt that he was probably not lying.
No wonder her parents were so eager to arrange this blind date for her. They wanted to find a helper for the Peterson family.
At that moment, Marina realized many things, but the more she thought about it, the more anxious she became.
"Marina, calm down." Evelyn held her hand. "Don't panic."
Evelyn's calm voice came through, and it also infected Marina. "Hmm."
The two of them
And they sat back in their original seats, watching as Marina and Evander showed no signs of leaving. Evander also sat down, leisurely saying, "The Peterson family is on the verge of bankruptcy. Your father approached mine, hoping that I would marry you, in order to unite our families and help the Petersons."
Arranged marriages were not uncommon. Although the Peterson family was in dire straits, Evander's father believed that as long as he could offer a helping hand, the Peterson family would remain as it had always been.
"But... how is this even possible..." Marina still couldn't believe it.
"There's nothing impossible about it. That's just how business works. Even big companies go bankrupt. Remember what happened to the Ackers and Barns families?" Evander explained.
Seeing Marina's bewildered expression, his tone softened. After all, they had no animosity with each other, so there was no need to make things difficult.
Moreover, he wasn't interested in Marina; he was interested in Evelyn.
In front of Evelyn, he had to be more composed.
Marina started crying, wiping her tears and looking at her phone. It seemed like she was going to make a call.
Evelyn didn't stop her. It was better to find out the truth at a time like this. She couldn't remain in the dark forever.
Seeing her leave, Evander smiled and said, "Ms. Kyte, this is my business card. Feel free to give me a call anytime."
Evelyn didn't take it, unable to hold back her laughter. "Evander, that's not very nice."
"What's wrong with it? Marina has already made it clear that she's not interested in me, and I happen to not be interested in her either." He spoke, his gaze always fixed on Evelyn. It was clear in his eyes that he hadn't chosen Marina, but he had chosen Evelyn.
Evelyn found this person rather interesting. Not many people could be so straightforward.
"Sorry, but I already have a boyfriend," Evelyn said, not wanting to engage with him any further.
Upon hearing this, Evander's disappointment briefly flashed across his face, but quickly disappeared. "Having a boyfriend doesn't matter. Would you mind having one more?"
This time, Evelyn couldn't help but burst out laughing. "You really don't mind anything, do you?"
"A beautiful woman deserves to have multiple boyfriends," Evander jokingly replied. It was all just for fun; having a few boyfriends didn't matter to him.
Evelyn didn't want to say anything more, and conveniently, Marina returned after finishing her phone call. Her eyes were red, indicating she had been crying.
She sat back in her seat, smiled at Evander, and lost her earlier arrogance. "Evander, I'm sorry for my attitude earlier."
"It's okay, I understand. If it weren't for the Petersons' troubles, your father wouldn't have considered me," he said, clearly aware of his position.
Marina forced a smile but didn't look too good.
"Look, I've been thinking, and I think you, Evander, are not too bad. We can try to get to know each other, what do you think?"
"Oh?" Evander raised an eyebrow, as if he heard something interesting. "You don't mind playing separately after marriage?"
