Chapter 261 Complicated Emotions
At Evelyna Fashion Design Company, Evelyn had just finished her conversation with Sarah when she received a call from Niall.
After he finished speaking, Evelyn asked, "So, he was bribed by Natalie because his sister was seriously ill, and he needed money for her treatment?"
"Yes, that seems to be the case based on the information I found," Niall replied.
Evelyn's emotions were complicated at that moment.
Nathan, with his remarkable skills, had helped Natalie in their previous confrontation with her. It was because of him that she had been knocked unconscious and almost framed as a murderer in the room where Kenny was killed.
She had always found it suspicious for someone like Nathan, who possessed such skills, to be assisting Natalie. That's why she specifically asked Niall to investigate Nathan's background, and unexpectedly, something was uncovered.
It was understandable that Nathan would become Natalie's right-hand man with a seriously ill sister. He must have been in desperate need of money.
Strangely, the anger she had towards that man disappeared completely.
"You're right, Natalie is truly heartless. She promised to help someone with the illness, but after Nathan was caught, she didn't even pay the hospital. The girl is still lying in the hospital," Niall couldn't help but complain.
"So, his sister's illness was never treated?" Evelyn asked.
"Yes, according to the hospital, Nathan only paid a deposit, promising to raise the rest of the surgical fees quickly. But unexpectedly, all this time has passed, and not only hasn't the money arrived, but even Nathan has gone missing," Niall explained.
Evelyn fell silent. Sometimes, it was better not to know certain things, as knowing them would only weigh on her conscience.
As if understanding what Evelyn was thinking, Niall spoke up, "Evelyn, you don't want to save her, do you?"
Having grown up together, Niall knew Evelyn quite well, though not entirely.
"No matter what Nathan has done, his sister is innocent," Evelyn sighed helplessly, knowing that her words might sound insincere.
But if she were to truly turn a blind eye and let the girl die, she wouldn't be able to do it.
Niall sighed too, not surprised by her decision. "I knew it. Once I told you, you would definitely intervene."
"If you really want to save her, I won't stop you. But Nathan must be the one to confess and expose Natalie," he added.
Evelyn frowned and sighed in resignation, "It's not as simple as you think. Kenny was indeed killed by Nathan's hands, but who would believe it was on Natalie's orders?"
"You're just going to let him off that easily?" Niall couldn't swallow this.
"It's not about letting him off easy or not. Nathan will still spend the rest of his life in prison, and even if his sister survives, it won't save him," Evelyn believed that everyone should be responsible for their own actions. Nathan had done wrong, and he paid the price. She wouldn't direct her anger towards him because of that.
Her persistence made it difficult for Niall to say anything more: "Do as you wish, you've always been like this anyway." Evelyn was kind-hearted, and he had known it for more than a day.
"Alright, then help me transfer the money without telling anyone at the hospital who it's from. Just say it's from a charitable organization." She didn't want to have any more connection with Nathan's family, good or bad, and just wanted to let it all go.
After hanging up the phone, Evelyn took a deep breath, left the company, and completely put Nathan's matters out of her mind.
But Niall obviously didn't think the same way. After transferring the money to the hospital, he still couldn't swallow this anger and decided to drive straight to the prison.
Even if he couldn't prove that Natalie was the mastermind, he wanted Nathan to feel guilty and know just how wrong his actions were.
