Chapter 569 I Won't Mind
Following his rejection by Evelyn, Bruno was already nursing a sour mood. The subsequent interrogation only served to fan the flames of his irritation. "Am I obligated to report my every move to you? You're crossing a line," he retorted.
"Bruno Mullen!" The junior nurse's voice was laced with anger. "I'm your girlfriend, don't I have the right to know?"
"We're just dating, not wedded," Bruno countered. In his eyes, this young nurse fell short of the qualifications to be his wife.
Upon hearing this, the nurse could no longer contain her frustration. She delivered a resounding slap to Bruno's face, "Jerk!" she spat.
Bruno's philandering ways within the hospital had already left her feeling aggrieved. His belittling comments were the last straw. Rising from her seat, she prepared to leave.
Before her departure, she couldn't resist throwing one last jab, "I know you believe I'm not good enough for you, that you're always aiming higher. But do you genuinely think they're even glancing in your direction?" Her gaze flicked to Evelyn as she spoke.
Their squabble had drawn the attention of everyone in the room. Some found amusement in the unfolding drama, but the majority were wearied by their public spectacle.
"Can't you two just take this home and argue behind closed doors? Must you really create a scene here?" someone muttered under their breath.
Regretting his outburst, Bruno's face darkened, "Get out!"
"Fine, I'm leaving, and we're done!" the nurse retorted, punctuating her statement with a defiant, "Remember, I dumped you!"
Bruno was unable to accept this unexpected turn of events. He was comfortable with the idea of ending their relationship, but it had to be on his terms.
However, the nurse didn't give him the chance to utter another word. She exited the private dining room, disappearing from sight in an instant.
Once she was gone, all eyes naturally gravitated towards Bruno.
The director, well-acquainted with Bruno's character, wore an expression of extreme displeasure. "Bruno, I've overlooked your behavior in the past, but if you do anything to tarnish the hospital's reputation, I will not stand for it."
He was acutely aware that Bruno's actions could potentially ruin the hospital's reputation, a prospect that left him far from pleased.
Bruno grasped the director's implication. He offered a nervous laugh and reassured him, "Don't worry, sir. I assure you nothing of that sort will happen."
He didn't linger in the room any longer.
Partly due to embarrassment, but primarily because he needed to locate the nurse. If she caused a larger scene, it would spell disaster for him.
His departure triggered laughter among the crowd, as if they had just witnessed an entertaining play.
"Evelyn, don't concern yourself with that. It's none of your business," the director reassured, fearing that Evelyn might overthink the situation.
Evelyn nodded in response, "I'm not bothered by it, rest assured."
For Evelyn, a man like Bruno was beneath her notice, and she had no desire to associate with him.
They were colleagues who once crossed paths daily, and she had maintained a polite demeanor. But those days were over. With her imminent departure from the hospital, she would never have to see Bruno again.
The dinner continued, and by the time everyone dispersed, it was already 10 P.M. Standing slightly tipsy at the curb, Evelyn's only desire was to hail a cab and rest as soon as possible.
A black Maybach pulled up in front of her, and Dermot emerged, approaching her, "You've been drinking?"
"Well, a little." Evelyn nodded, her words carrying a hint of truth that Dermot suspected was an understatement.
He didn't probe further. He understood the reluctance in her heart. If not for the Kyte family, she would likely have remained in Moris City for life.
But who could predict the future? They were all equally compelled to move forward.
