Chapter 624 The Plan Continues
Evelyn was far from naive. She understood that a family like the Roberts wouldn't unnecessarily convolute matters. Yet, wasn't she wagering on the slim possibility that they might?
What if the Roberts, upon recognizing the potent bond she shared with Dermot, opted to use him as a bargaining chip against her? Considering that she was the most probable heir to the Kyte dynasty, it wasn't an implausible scenario. They could even dangle Dermot's life before her, coercing her to forfeit her claim to the Kyte lineage, thereby clearing the path for Dora and her daughter to seize control. As Evelyn ruminated, the scenario seemed increasingly credible. The sudden hostility towards Dermot might be a calculated maneuver by the Roberts. With this suspicion, she was steadfast in her resolution to scrutinize the Roberts family thoroughly.
"The Roberts are as elusive as the Kytes. Your request for me to probe into their affairs will likely yield no results. After all, for a powerful family like theirs, concealing someone is child's play," Blake articulated slowly.
He yearned to convince Evelyn to release her grip, yet he couldn't voice it. It would be excessively harsh, he mused, particularly for Evelyn, who, despite her disdain for Dermot, didn't warrant such anguish."Let her attempt," he contemplated. "Perhaps time will unveil the best remedy."
Evelyn, conversely, didn't have the privilege to dwell on these peripheral worries. She weighed Blake's words judiciously. "You raise a valid point. To thoroughly investigate the Roberts family, the only option is..."She paused momentarily, a glint in her eye. "To continue with the initial plan?""Are you referring to the proposition of usurping the Roberts family business?" Blake queried.Evelyn affirmed with a nod. "Although Dermot can't participate presently, we have the Fisher family. That shouldn't present a significant obstacle.""And if need be, I'll align with another family. It's all a matter of interests. No one would decline a beneficial proposition."Blake discerned Evelyn's anxiety, likely fretting that the longer the delay, the more perilous Dermot's situation would become. He sighed inwardly, but nonetheless, he responded, "It might not even be required. After all, the Fisher family still wields more influence than either I or the Roberts family."
Indeed, among the elite families, power and influence varied. The Roberts family, while not as esteemed as the Kyte family, was still formidable. Even the Kytes couldn't rival the Fishers. As for the Coopers, they were essentially at the base of the social ladder, which explained Lucia's dismissive attitude towards them."Which family is the strongest among the top ten?" Evelyn inquired almost instinctively, realizing she hadn't pondered this before.Without a moment's hesitation, Blake responded, "The Doyle family."
"The Doyle family?" Evelyn was particularly attuned to any mention of the Doyles due to Dermot."Yes, the Doyle family boasts centuries of history. They have their complications, but that doesn't diminish their power," Blake declared casually, his eyes reflecting a touch of reverence. If he could elevate the Kyte family to the stature of the Doyle family, he mused, Evelyn would never have to worry about being mistreated by anyone again. Before Evelyn could probe further, Blake continued, "The Doyles are currently embroiled in a power struggle. Rumor has it they haven't settled on the next heir and everyone's battling fiercely."Evelyn acknowledged his words but didn't take them too seriously. "Alright, I'll contact Caius Fisher. We can dine tonight and discuss this matter.""Sure," Blake agreed, fully cognizant of Evelyn's urgency and offering no resistance. As Evelyn rose to depart, the entire Doyle family situation didn't preoccupy her thoughts, nor did she draw any correlation between Dermot's disappearance and the Doyles.Lucia somehow learned about the planned dinner with Caius and arrived at the office early in the morning to wait."I want to join you for dinner tonight," Lucia announced. She rarely had the opportunity to see Caius and was apprehensive about missing this chance.Blake knew the evening's dialogue was crucial and that Lucia's close connection with the Roberts lineage made her presence unsuitable. He dismissed her request without further consideration.
