Chapter 1058: This Was an Accident

Late at night, Dermot woke up thirsty.

He tried to get up for water but ended up waking Evelyn beside him. "Don't move. Just tell me what you need."

"Water," Dermot croaked.

Evelyn got up, poured a glass, but didn't hand it to him. "You can't drink too much now. Let me moisten your lips with a cotton swab, okay?"

She spoke gently, like comforting a child.

Dermot smiled and nodded. "Okay."

With Evelyn there, he didn't feel as thirsty.

After moistening his lips, Evelyn sat back by the hospital bed. "Rest now."

"What about you? Are you staying here?" Dermot felt happy but a bit guilty.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Dawn's almost here." Evelyn didn't mind. Dermot had stayed with her in the hospital before, so it wasn't a big deal.

But Dermot thought differently. He shifted over. "Lie down on the bed. Sitting all night is too tiring."

"No need. This bed's small. If I lie down, it'll affect your rest." Evelyn refused and stood up. "I'll lie on the couch. Call me if you need anything."

She walked to the couch and lay down.

The couch was small but more comfortable than sitting.

Dermot didn't argue and started chatting. "Why'd you come find me?"

Evelyn understood and decided to be honest. "Your room lights were on for a long time, and you didn't call. It was unusual."

"So, I saved myself?" Dermot laughed.

"You could say that." Evelyn nodded.

"Evelyn, thank you." Dermot knew it was because she cared enough to notice he was unconscious.

Evelyn sat up, looking serious. "If you really want to thank me, take care of yourself. Eat and rest on time every day."

"Before I met you, I didn't think there was anything worth holding onto. After meeting you, I've changed a lot." Now he tried to eat daily, though he still stayed up late. It was better than before.

Evelyn didn't know this. She only saw him unconscious at home. "If you had really changed, you wouldn't have passed out from a stomachache."

"That was an accident," he explained. He thought some medicine would be enough, but he ran out and couldn't get more easily. He thought he could tough it out.

He didn't expect the pain to worsen and pass out.

But he didn't regret it. At least after fainting, Evelyn would take care of him.

"Dermot, you're still young, you know?" Evelyn looked serious.

Dermot met her gaze and understood. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I'll take care of myself, even if it's for you."

"Not for me, but for yourself," Evelyn replied, lying back down. She believed no one should live solely for someone else; the only responsibility they had was to themselves.
