Chapter 227 You Would Be an Accomplice
Evelyn and her group, along with Ruby Kite, left the mountain villa and disappeared from Craig's sight. Ruby Kite and her hateful gaze lingered in his mind.
"They're all gone, why aren't you leaving?" Craig looked up at Dermot, uninterested.
Dermot frowned, sensing that Craig was not at the moment. "If you like her, pursue her properly. This way, you'll only push her further away."
Craig sneered at the remark, tapping his slender fingers on the keyboard. "I don't lack women around me, why should I pursue her? People who don't know would think she's a beauty that can overthrow a nation."
"Whatever, don't cry to me when you regret it later." Dermot couldn't be bothered to say more and turned to leave.
"If you have time to worry about me, worry about yourself first. I don't think it'll be so easy for you to handle Ms. Kyte." Craig's blunt words struck a nerve.
Dermot's face turned ugly, giving him a cold glare. "Thanks for the reminder."
"No problem." Craig waved him off, looking smug.
Dermot left the villa and called Evelyn, but instead of her voice, only a emotionless, mechanical sound came from the other end.
Evelyn had hung up on his call!
In that moment, Dermot felt a sense of panic.
Without hesitation, he drove straight to Barberts Apartment. He had to explain everything no matter what.
Evelyn didn't return to her apartment. Instead, she ensured Ruby Kite's safety by bringing her to the Kite family before going back.
When she arrived at her apartment doorstep, Dermot had been waiting there for almost two hours, but he didn't feel tired, only worried that Evelyn would ignore him.
"Evey." Seeing her, Dermot straightened up like a child who had done something wrong.
Evelyn glanced at him and ignored him, walking straight to the door. Just as she was about to close it, Dermot took the opportunity to squeeze in.
"Evey, I didn't mean to deceive you." Dermot spoke up, feeling guilty in his heart.
Evelyn took off her shoes and walked towards the sofa. Emotionless. "Yeah, you didn't mean to, you did it on purpose."
"Evey, I..."
"Do you dare say that you don't know where Ruby is with Craig?" Evelyn interrupted, questioning him.
Evelyn's anger intensified: "So, you still dare to claim that it's not intentional? Aren't you just helping Craig?"
"Thankfully, Ruby is fine this time. If something had happened to her, Dermot, you would be an accomplice!"
She was very angry, not only because Ruby Kite almost got into trouble, but because of Dermot's deception.
She hated being deceived.
"I'm sorry," Dermot felt that whatever he said now wouldn't make a difference. Besides apologizing, he didn't know what else to say.
Evelyn took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "You don't need to apologize to me. Craig is your friend, and there's nothing wrong with helping him."
"Evey..."
"You don't need to explain too much to me. This is your choice, and I have my own choice." She looked at Dermot, disappointment filling her eyes.
Her gaze weighed heavily on Dermot's heart, making it difficult for him to breathe. "I will apologize to Ruby Kite."
"No need," Evelyn rejected on behalf of Ruby Kite. It seemed that Ruby Kite didn't care about his apology either.
"Can I not have another chance? I swear this kind of thing won't happen again, even if it's Craig, he won't deceive you."
Evelyn looked at him and said slowly, "I'm sorry, I have given you a chance, but you didn't cherish it."
