Chapter 212 Just to Gain Sympathy?
Evelyn didn't know what Natalie and Oliver had said, but she just felt that Natalie's actions today were very strange.
What was the point of this framing? Besides Oliver believing her, who else would believe it?
She couldn't understand. Getting slapped just to gain sympathy?
She couldn't comprehend, so she kept thinking. Dermot, who was driving, became a little worried when he saw this, "What are you thinking? Worried about the Stanley family?"
"Not really, just finding Natalie's behavior inexplicable," she shifted her gaze back from the window and looked at Dermot.
Dermot understood her meaning and after thinking for a moment, he nodded, "That might be true. But maybe she really just wanted to frame you and didn't expect you to react this way."
Most people would be anxious to explain, unlike Evelyn who not only didn't explain, but also confirmed the act of slapping someone.
"That's also possible," Evelyn nodded and then smiled at Dermot, "Don't you suspect me? What if I really slapped her in the bathroom?"
"I trust you," Dermot said and then hurriedly added, "Even if you did slap her, it wouldn't be your fault."
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh at this, she didn't feel touched by this inexplicable trust, but rather found it amusing.
She said to Dermot, "Aren't you blurring the lines between personal and public matters? Just because you protect someone, does that make their wrongdoings justified?"
To be honest, she didn't really like this preference for indiscriminate right and wrong.
"It's not entirely like that. I just believe in your character, that you wouldn't randomly attack Natalie," Dermot replied. He wasn't blurring right and wrong, but had his own judgment.
After a moment of silence, she asked Dermot, "Don't you think I was too cruel when I attacked her later? Did slapping her like that go too far?"
"But I used up all my strength with that slap," Evelyn said.
"I didn't feel sorry for you at that moment, I just thought you were unique," Dermot said. In that instant, Dermot admired Evelyn instead of feeling sorry for Natalie.
"You are..." Evelyn paused for a moment, unable to find the right words to describe Dermot.
Dermot looked at her and said seriously, "I guess it's because of you that I feel this way."
Evelyn glanced at him deeply, then turned her head away without saying anything.
The car continued to drive, and just when Evelyn thought Dermot would take her back to her apartment, he stopped the car in front of a restaurant. "You didn't eat enough just now. I saw that you barely touched your chopsticks."
"It's okay, mainly because I lost my appetite when I saw someone I don't like." Besides, she was also worried that Natalie might have tampered with the food. Evelyn felt that she should be cautious.
Dermot chuckled, opened the car door for her, and said, "Let's have a meal together. I haven't eaten enough either."
"Okay," Evelyn didn't refuse, as it was a rare break for her and she didn't want to go hungry.
During this meal, Evelyn and Dermot enjoyed themselves. Setting aside the fact that he was her ex-husband, Evelyn thought that Dermot was actually a nice person.
"My grandfather has been mentioning you all the time. Do you have time this afternoon to accompany me to Doyal Mansion to see him?" Dermot suddenly spoke while they were eating.
Grandpa Doyle did indeed mention Evelyn, but Dermot also wanted more alone time with her.
"Sure," Evelyn nodded. Since the countryside trip was over, it was only right to go and see Grandpa Doyle.
Speaking of Grandpa Doyle, Evelyn suddenly looked curious as she asked Dermot, "Don't you think it's strange that Grandpa Doyle insists that we are a good match?"
