Chapter 618 Not Everyone's After Your Money

Craig's logic was sound, and Evelyn was aware of it. Yet, she found herself at a loss for any other course of action but to continue her search. What if Dermot had managed to land undetected, employing an unconventional method? Observing her unwavering determination, Craig muttered a curse under his breath and pivoted to depart. After only a few strides, however, he turned back. "Ruby... is she faring well?" he inquired. Since Ruby's departure for Colombia, he had lost contact with her. His initial plan had been to shift his base to Colombia, just like Dermot, but he hadn't anticipated his current predicament.

"She's fine," Evelyn assured him, convinced from her viewpoint that Ruby was indeed doing well. A flicker of disappointment crossed Craig's eyes at her response, as if he found it hard to accept that Ruby might be thriving without him.The mention of Ruby piqued Evelyn's curiosity, prompting her to probe further into the conversation. Rising to her feet, she confronted the somber man before her. "Have you considered giving up?" she asked.

"Why would I give up? She’s my woman, for life," Craig declared with unwavering confidence, seeing no problem with his assertion. Evelyn rolled her eyes, at a loss for words.

"Have you ever pondered whether Ruby wants to be your woman?" she challenged.

"Of course she does!" He retorted without hesitation, fully convinced of Ruby's affection for him. How could she not want to be with him? Evelyn found his delusion pitiful.

"Then why do you think she left?" she asked. The question visibly unsettled Craig. His demeanor changed, his expression turning dark. "If it weren't for your interference, she wouldn't have had the opportunity to leave," he accused.

"She might not have had the chance, but that doesn't mean she didn't want to leave. Craig, when will you acknowledge your error?" Evelyn laughed, finding his obliviousness almost amusing.

"Me? What did I do wrong?" Craig grumbled, running a hand through his hair with an air of nonchalance. To him, liking someone meant keeping them close, didn't it?Ruby had everything she could want when she was with him—provided she didn't entertain thoughts of leaving. He had always gone out of his way to please her.But Evelyn saw through him; he genuinely didn't believe he was at fault. With a resigned sigh, she spoke slowly, "If you truly care about Ruby, it's not about confining her but demonstrating commitment. You don’t need to rush into marriage, but at least make a stand?" "You not only failed to do that, but you also explicitly stated that marriage wasn’t an option. Given these circumstances, do you genuinely believe Ruby would stay with you?""You believe your wealth and power can provide Ruby with everything she desires, but not everyone is after your fortune."She was only indulging in this lengthy conversation for Ruby's sake. In the past, she'd thought Dermot incapable of loving someone, but compared to Craig, Dermot was far superior.Having delivered this harsh truth, Evelyn didn't waste another word on him. She immersed herself back into her search for any leads related to Dermot."Do women truly place such importance on status?" Craig murmured, his voice barely audible, after what seemed like an eternity. Evelyn lifted her eyes to meet his and nodded solemnly. "Yes, it's important."Once Craig had departed, Evelyn didn't linger on him. She hoped that some of her words had penetrated his thick skull. She resumed her pursuit of Dermot without further ado.As she scoured the riverbank, she found no trace of Dermot. Could it be that he hadn't come ashore here but had been swept downstream? If that was the case, the situation was far more precarious. With the swift current and a pursuer on his tail, could he truly escape unharmed?A heavy feeling settled in Evelyn's chest, but she didn't lose hope. She prepared to search downstream. There had to be a clue somewhere.
