Chapter 945: You Want to Set Them Up
In the next few days, Joshua didn't show up in front of Evelyn. Maybe he didn't know how to explain, or he just didn't want to.
Evelyn didn't call him either. She was waiting for him to make the first move.
"Did Otis really just go to jail like that?" Evelyn still couldn't believe it. He was part of the Doyle family, and it surprised her that Randy just let him go.
Dermot, sitting across from her, said, "Randy's not dumb. Alex is digging deep into their business. If Randy tries to get Otis out, things will get messy. He can't risk Alex blowing things up, so he had to let Otis go."
The Doyle family had too many skeletons in their closet. If Alex wanted to cause trouble, it would be a big deal. Randy couldn't afford to act recklessly now.
Randy was cautious because he hadn't dealt with Dermot yet. If he went against Alex now, he'd be fighting on two fronts, and even Randy couldn't handle that.
"So, Alex is pretty capable, huh?" Evelyn said, looking thoughtful.
Dermot glanced at her but didn't pry. "Yeah, but he lacks a strong background. He's hit his ceiling in his current position."
Sometimes, talent alone isn't enough.
Evelyn, while eating, looked at Dermot. "You told Ruby you wanted to invite Alex to dinner. It wasn't just for a meal, was it?"
A savvy businessman like Dermot wouldn't be so generous without a reason.
"You already know, so why ask?" Dermot didn't deny it. He had a purpose in asking Ruby to invite Alex.
"Then let's do it today. I'll have Ruby invite him tonight. What do you think?" Evelyn asked, looking eager.
Dermot was puzzled. He studied her. "You're pretty interested in Alex, huh? Do you like him?"
"I just don't want such a great guy to be overlooked," Evelyn said, continuing to eat, ignoring Dermot's question.
Dermot chuckled, his eyes warm. "Are you trying to set up Alex and Ruby?"
"Don't you think they'd make a good match?" She thought Alex had a good character, was handsome, and was Ruby's classmate. It seemed like fate.
Alex was such a great guy. She had to try to set him up with Ruby.
Dermot, being Craig's friend, hesitated. "Actually, I think Ruby still has feelings for Craig. Why not let them figure it out?"
"Craig's a jerk who doesn't respect people. He can't make Ruby happy, only hurt her." In her view, if Ruby still had feelings for Craig, they would have made progress by now.
But last time she saw them, there was no progress, and Ruby's attitude toward Craig wasn't good. So, Ruby probably didn't have feelings for him anymore.
She thought this was good. She never thought they were a good match anyway.
Dermot sighed, feeling a bit of a headache. "Actually, Craig's a good guy. He just didn't understand love because of his upbringing, so he hurt Ruby before. I believe he's changed now."
After all, being friends for many years, Dermot understood Craig's feelings for Ruby and hoped Craig would find happiness.
