Chapter 828 I Don't Mind the Trouble

After a brief silence in the car, Evelyn finally said, "Thanks for earlier. You can just drop me off here."

Dermot kept driving. "Aren't you heading to the police station? I'll drive you there."

Evelyn shook her head. "No need. I'll grab a cab."

She didn't want to get too involved with Otis, which is why she chose Dermot's car. But she didn't want to get too involved with Dermot either.

Dermot didn't slow down. He gave a wry smile. "I know you're not my biggest fan right now. Maybe you even hate me, but it's not a big deal. I'm just giving you a ride, nothing more."

"You're overthinking it. I just don't want to trouble you." She didn't hate Dermot; she just felt their relationship wasn't close enough for him to drive her to the police station.

"I don't mind the trouble," Dermot replied.

Evelyn was momentarily speechless. She glanced at him and gave in. "Fine, suit yourself."

She wasn't one to make a fuss. If Dermot insisted, there was no point in arguing.

Just then, her phone rang. Evelyn answered, "Joshua."

"You're not at the hospital, are you?" Joshua had apparently come to pick her up, but she had already left.

Evelyn was surprised and explained, "The police station called me in. I'm on my way there now."

"I'll pick you up at the police station," Joshua offered.

Evelyn glanced at Dermot, still driving, and imagined the awkward scene of Joshua and Dermot meeting. She quickly shook her head. "No need. Let's just meet for dinner later. You go ahead to the restaurant and order. I'll be there soon."

"Alright, be careful," Joshua replied.

After the call ended, Dermot asked, "You and Joshua seemed to be close?"

"Not bad," Evelyn said nonchalantly. She and Joshua had grown up together. Even though they hadn't seen each other in years, there was still some affection.

Dermot felt a bit uneasy. "There's a rumor he joined the Kyte Group to become the Kyte family's son-in-law. What do you think?"

Dermot was fishing for her feelings. If she had no interest in Joshua, she'd deny it.

Evelyn saw through his probing and wouldn't give him the satisfaction. "Sounds good."

Dermot's face darkened.

"So, you are thinking about dating him?" Dermot asked directly this time.

Evelyn glanced at him and replied calmly, "What does it matter to you? Joshua is great and handsome. Why wouldn't I date him?"

It wasn't entirely untrue. She had liked Joshua when she was younger and even confessed to him.

Though it seemed laughable now, it did show Joshua was special to her.

"Is he more excellent or handsome than me?" Dermot asked, feeling a bit jealous.

"Dermot, can you stop being so narcissistic? Do you really think you're the best-looking and most talented guy in the world?" Evelyn felt speechless. Dermot was just as arrogant as when she first met him.

Dermot showed no sign of embarrassment, not even a flicker of change in his expression. "I don't care about others' opinions. What's important is how you see me."

He asked again, "In your heart, is Joshua really better than me?"
