Chapter 512 Who Does Dermot Think He Is?

Grasping the validity in Evelyn's words, Sarah agreed, "Right, the Kyte family is one of the top ten families in Columbia. People wouldn’t want to offend you, considering your connections."

"Then it's settled," Evelyn declared with finality, before giving her next instructions: “For the next few days, your only task here in Columbia is to find an office building for Evelyna Fashion Group."

She could've handled this herself, but she was tied up dealing with the Kyte family affairs and simply couldn't find the time.

"No problem," Sarah stated with confidence.

Evelyn then pulled out two contracts from her bag and handed them over: "These are two companies I've acquired. Get them under the umbrella of Evelyna Fashion Group."

Sarah and Luke each took a document and started reviewing them, both surprised: "Looks like you're quite ambitious, even getting involved in these areas."

"Of course," Evelyn said with a laugh. "These are lucrative ventures for the future. How could I ignore them?" She was determined to stay ahead in a field that others had yet to fully appreciate.
After pocketing the contract, Evelyn glanced at Luke, who remained silent throughout, an unreadable expression cloaking his thoughts.

"Evelyn to Sarah, "Could you fetch me a coffee?" Evelyn asked Sarah.

Sarah was about to suggest sending a waiter instead, but a quick glance at Evelyn's gaze, now fixed on Luke, made her catch the drift.

"Sure," Sarah responded, standing and stepping away from her seat.

Once she left, Evelyn, now with a smile, turned to Luke and inquired, "You haven't said a word since we landed. What's on your mind?"

Straight to the point, just as she had been, Luke dispelled any notion of beating around the bush, "You're aware of who I am, so why keep me around?"

It wasn't just about keeping him; they even let him in on critical company affairs, as if entrusting him with significant responsibilities. Luke couldn't quite figure out this woman.

"Your identity has no bearing on your abilities. I'm not interested in who you are, as long as you don't harm the company's interests. Whose son you are doesn't concern me," Evelyn stated bluntly.

Raising an eyebrow, Luke chuckled, "I approached you with an agenda. What makes you think, after learning who I am, that I'd still be loyal to you?"

He wasn't a fool. Knowing his identity would naturally make Evelyn wary of him, and in such a situation, it would be unlikely for her to warm up to him.

"So, are you planning to resign?" Evelyn asked, her expression revealing no surprise nor particular concern about his statement.

Luke felt a twinge of disappointment; he had hoped to see a different reaction from Evelyn.

"Luke, being Benjamin's son, with a powerful brother like Dermot above you, these past years must've been tough, right?" Evelyn remarked calmly.

Luke felt a sudden stiffness in his shoulders and glared at Evelyn, "Tough? Why should I feel tough? What's Dermot to me!"

"If he meant nothing, why did you set your sights on me?" Evelyn prodded lightly, her smile suggesting she'd already seen through Luke's plans.

Luke fell silent, offering no reply.

As a child, he had been oblivious to Benjamin's true identity, believing he was just like every other kid with ordinary parents. But his later revelation of the truth and Dermot's existence troubled him.

He couldn't help himself from constantly looking up information about Dermot, feeling a sharp pang of jealousy each time he saw how well-regarded and successful he was.

Why should Dermot, also a Doyle, enjoy such a life, while he was just an ordinary person?
