Chapter 1302: Are You Going to Become a Clergyman

After Lily and Niall called it quits, Evelyn tried to set up a meet with Aidan, but he blew her off, saying he was swamped.

Feeling kinda desperate, Evelyn decided to just show up at Aidan's company to catch him in person.

She knocked on his office door and walked in while he was still buried in work.

"Aidan," she said, standing in front of his desk, "It's noon. How about grabbing lunch with me?"

Aidan was surprised to see her. He gave a helpless smile but didn't say no. "Sure."

He got up and led her to the company cafeteria.

Aidan had moved the company to Golombia a while back, and it was doing pretty well. The place was packed during lunch.

Being the boss had its perks. He took Evelyn to the second floor, where they had a special area for ordering food.

"What do you wanna eat?" Aidan handed her the menu.

Evelyn glanced at it and smiled. "The food here is way better than what I get at the hospital."

"If you like it, you can come here more often," Aidan said.

Evelyn smiled and agreed, then picked a couple of dishes she liked and handed the menu back to Aidan.

Aidan added a few more dishes and then looked at her. "So, why'd you come to see me out of the blue? Something up?"

"No, Aidan. Do I need a reason to see you now?" Evelyn felt a bit down. It was bad enough that Aidan didn't reach out, but now he didn't seem too thrilled even when she made the effort.

Aidan shook his head. "That's not what I meant."

Things got a bit awkward. Evelyn thought for a moment and decided to be straight with him. "Are you still mad at me?"

"Mad at you? Why would you think that?" Aidan looked confused. He didn't think he had any reason to be mad at her.

Evelyn recounted what had happened that day and felt a bit guilty. "I was kinda harsh with my words back then. You were just looking out for Niall."

"Evelyn, do you really think I'm that petty?" Aidan said, looking a bit helpless. Sure, her words had stung, but not enough to make him angry.

"Then if you're not mad, why haven't you visited Niall all this time?" Evelyn asked.

Aidan sighed. "I've been super busy, and like you said, you all have your own lives now. Why should I interfere?"

"Aidan."

"Don't worry, I've thought it through. I'm happy for you all." He had done a lot of thinking lately. He used to worry too much, but he wasn't gonna do that anymore.

Despite his words, Evelyn didn't feel relieved. She felt a bit worried. "Aidan, are you okay?"

"I'm fine. I've never felt more relaxed." Aidan used to stress about Evelyn and Niall meeting the wrong people, but ever since he decided to let go, he felt a huge sense of relief.

Evelyn didn't know what to say. This was what she wanted, but it felt weird now that it was happening.

Before she could speak, Aidan continued, "Once you and Niall are married, I'll go do what I like."

"Aidan, what do you wanna do?" Evelyn asked.

"I'm planning to visit a Catholic church. I once met a priest there who said a lot of thought-provoking things. He's still there, and I wanna seek him out," Aidan explained.

Evelyn was momentarily stunned.

"Aidan! Are you planning to become a clergyman?" Evelyn couldn't believe it and wondered if she had misunderstood him.
