Chapter 1060-1061: This Is Enough
Joshua looked apologetic. "Sorry for calling you back over something so small."
"Joshua, don't worry about it. I moved here to take care of you." Dermot would be fine with someone else looking after him.
Joshua felt a bit happier but didn't show it. "I was just talking to Brandon, wondering if moving here was a mistake for you. You deserve your own life, not to be stuck with someone like me."
Evelyn sighed, "Joshua, don't say that."
She added, "Even though I moved here, I still go to work every day. It hasn't changed much. Brandon's the one really taking care of you."
Evelyn and Brandon weren't close, but she knew he was loyal to Joshua. "But it still affects you, and I feel bad," Joshua said, looking down.
Evelyn's heart ached. "Joshua, if it weren't for you, I might be dead. This is nothing compared to that."
"And what about you and Dermot?" Joshua asked.
Evelyn didn't know what to say.
"If it weren't for me, you'd be with him, right?" Joshua smiled bitterly.
Evelyn moving in with him meant she couldn't be with Dermot. No guy would be okay with his girlfriend living with another man.
Even if Dermot didn't mind, Evelyn wouldn't do it.
Evelyn smiled. "I'm not thinking about that now. I just want you to get better."
"Evelyn."
"Joshua, let's not talk about this. You need to rest." Evelyn cut him off, unable to answer his question. If the kidnapping hadn't happened and Joshua hadn't ended up in a wheelchair saving her, maybe she'd be with Dermot now.
But life doesn't work with "what ifs." Things happened the way they did. Better to focus on the future.
Joshua felt content with Evelyn's response. At least he knew that as long as he hadn't recovered, Evelyn wouldn't be with Dermot.
For him, that was enough.
Joshua had been worrying about this for days. He was afraid Evelyn and Dermot would get together, making it harder to win her back.
Evelyn made sure Joshua drank some water and then went to rest. She sat on the couch, thinking about Dermot. What was he doing now?
Was he taking his medicine and eating properly?
She worried because Dermot was a workaholic. He'd neglect himself without someone watching.
She thought she'd call him later to remind him.
Evelyn had no idea that after Todd arrived at the hospital, Dermot insisted on handling his discharge.
While she was on the couch thinking, Dermot had already returned to the neighboring villa.
But he didn't tell Evelyn, knowing she wouldn't approve. If she found out he was discharged early, she'd be upset.
He didn't want Evelyn to be unhappy, so he came home quietly, trying not to let her find out.
Todd was helpless. Dermot was his boss, and he couldn't stop him. He could only follow orders.
