Chapter 562 Better to Marry Her Off
As Evelyn's words hung in the air, she noticed Blake's lack of response. A flutter of nervousness stirred within her. "So, you see, the divorce wasn't entirely Dermot's fault. After all, who would be happy marrying a stranger?"
Blake's dissatisfaction was palpable as he retorted, "If that's the case, then why does he have feelings for you now?" He was far from pleased to hear his daughter defending Dermot.
Evelyn found herself at a loss for words.
After a lengthy pause, she finally murmured, "Fate."
Blake nearly choked on his disbelief. 'What kind of fate is that?' he wondered.
"Regardless, I still believe he's not the right man for you," Blake held firm to his stance. Even if Dermot wasn't entirely to blame for the divorce, he was certain that Evelyn wasn't at fault either.
Evelyn didn't attempt to sway his opinion, merely stating her position, "Don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing."
Her words echoed in the silence, leaving Blake with a desire to speak but a fear of upsetting her held him back.
Recognizing his hesitation, Evelyn offered a comforting smile, "Why not focus on Lucia's marriage instead? She's not getting any younger, and since you're not planning on leaving the Kyte family business to her, it might be best to find her a suitable match."
Evelyn couldn't help but imagine the chaos that would ensue if her plan worked. Dora and her daughter would be driven to their wits' end.
Blake seemed to sense her thoughts and sighed with resignation, "Evelyn, I understand you don't like Dora, but Lucia..."
"She's still your sister at the end of the day. I hope that even if you don't like her, you won't go out of your way to scheme against her."
His wish for his daughters to get along was evident, but given the current circumstances, he had abandoned that dream. Now, all he wanted was for them to avoid crossing paths.
Blake's desire to be a good father was clear to Evelyn. But...
She met his gaze with a steady smile, her tone even as she said, "I can mind my own business, but can she?
"You should be familiar with Lucia’s character after all these years. Just a heads up—if she crosses me, I won't let her off the hook."
'I just need evidence. Once I have it, I'll make sure that the mother-daughter duo doesn't get off easily.'
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Blake knew she wasn't joking, "I understand. I'll warn her."
"And about finding her a suitable match, I'll keep that in mind as well."
In the end, he accepted Evelyn's offer of assistance.
His fear was that if Lucia remained within the Kyte family, she might target Evelyn, and he would be caught in the crossfire between his two daughters. Choosing one side would inevitably hurt the other.
So, to prevent any potential conflicts, he would arrange for Lucia's marriage elsewhere. Hopefully, with her attention diverted from the Kyte fortunes, she wouldn't have any reason to bother Evelyn.
Blake might have thought it was a simple solution, but Evelyn knew better. Given their temperaments, even if Lucia were to marry, there was no guarantee she would settle down.
She had to be prepared and not allow herself to be blindsided again, ending up hurt without catching anyone or gathering evidence.
"Leap Lock from the Lock family seems quite fond of her," Evelyn suggested casually. "The Lock family is one of the top ten families, so it seems like a good match."
Leap Lock...
Blake fell silent, seriously considering the feasibility of the suggestion.
After a considerable pause, he finally asked, "The Lock family isn't bad, but I wonder if Lucia would agree?"
