Chapter 1163: Once Loved
Evelyn and Dermot were having their lovey-dovey moment, but meanwhile, Ruby bumped into someone she really didn't wanna see.
Ruby had just clocked out and was heading to the elevator when she spotted Craig hanging around. She froze, kinda shocked.
Feeling a bit uneasy, she couldn't figure out why Craig was here at this hour. Maybe it was the bad blood from before, but she was a bit freaked out.
Taking a deep breath, she gathered her nerve and walked over, stopping a few steps away from Craig.
This distance was just right; she could hear him clearly but also bolt if things got sketchy.
"What are you doing here?" Ruby asked.
Craig flicked his cigarette away, stomped it out, and looked at Ruby from a distance. "Why are you standing so far away from me?"
Ruby didn't bite and asked again, "Do you need something?"
"Nah, just wanted to ask, are you really with Alex?" Dermot had spilled the beans to him, not to stir up trouble for Ruby, but to make Craig back off.
But Dermot totally underestimated Craig's stubbornness. No way was Craig giving up on Ruby that easily. So, after hearing the news, he showed up outside Ruby's work to ask her straight up.
Ruby felt a wave of nerves but kept her cool. "Yeah, Alex is my boyfriend now."
As soon as she said this, Craig's face darkened, and the veins on his forehead popped like he was about to lose it.
Ruby got a bit scared and took a few steps back. "Craig, don't do anything stupid. I told you ages ago, I don't like you anymore."
"Ruby, how can you not like me? I don't buy it!" Craig was still stuck in his feelings, refusing to believe Ruby had moved on.
Ruby felt a headache coming on and didn't know how to deal with him. "Craig, we need to move on. We both deserve our own lives."
"No! My life isn't complete without you," Craig insisted.
Ruby was exasperated and couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Oh, come on, Craig. You know exactly how you treated me before. That wasn't love; it was just possessiveness."
If he really loved her, how could he have treated her like that?
"Ruby, I know I messed up. I'm willing to change. Please, just give me another chance," Craig pleaded, his eyes red and desperate.
But Ruby had no feelings for him anymore, so she couldn't feel sorry for him.
She looked at him with indifference and said, "I'm sorry, Craig. I already have a boyfriend, and I really like him. I'm not looking to change that."
In other words, she wasn't giving Craig any chance.
As soon as she said this, Craig lunged forward and grabbed her wrist. "Why? You loved me so much before. How can you say you don't love me anymore? Or was it all a lie from the start?"
Ruby winced from the pain in her wrist and frowned. "Craig, is there any point in rehashing this?"
"Yes!" Craig shouted angrily. To him, it was everything; he needed to know if Ruby had ever truly loved him.
Ruby sighed and looked at Craig with a touch of pity. "I did love you."
But now Ruby didn't love him anymore.
Craig stared blankly at Ruby, his eyes red, unwilling to let go. "I don't believe you don't love me anymore. You must be lying to me. You're still mad at me, right?"
"Craig, let go!" Ruby looked at the already somewhat out-of-control Craig, worried he might do something bad, and wanted to leave.
Unfortunately, Craig not only didn't let go but grabbed even tighter. "I won't let go. I won't let go for the rest of my life!"
