Chapter 808 Who Knows
After leaving the lounge, Evelyn didn't go directly to the venue but instead went to the restroom to refresh herself. Once she was sure everything was in order, she made her way out.
"What's the relationship between Joshua and the Kyte family? From Mr. Kyte's attitude, it seems like they want to groom him."
Before Evelyn could leave, she overheard voices outside the door. Not wanting to be discovered, she quickly hid in a nearby storage room.
"Who knows, maybe he has an extraordinary background."
"Extraordinary background? If you ask me, my opinion is that the Kyte family is looking for a son-in-law, and Joshua is their chosen one."
The statement caused a gasp among the group, but upon further thought, it made sense. How else could Blake's actions be explained?
"The Kyte family is now under Evelyn's control, and Blake must be worried. Finding a capable son-in-law is a perfect solution."
Everyone nodded in agreement. "But I heard that Evelyn and Dermot from the Doyle family used to be married. This is really messy."
"Yeah, but Dermot is not to be underestimated. He's now with Margaret from the Martin family. With the Martin family's support, he might actually take over the Doyle family."
The group laughed, treating the comment as a joke. No one seriously believed that Randy would hand over the family to an outsider like Dermot.
Listening to their discussion, Evelyn felt particularly dismayed, especially the part about Joshua becoming the Kyte family's son-in-law.
Joshua was very capable. Even without the Kyte family, he would quickly make a name for himself. Evelyn didn't want her presence to affect him.
Soon, the people in the restroom left, and Evelyn returned to the venue.
However, the words she had just heard left her feeling a bit down.
"What's wrong?" Joshua appeared beside her, noticing her mood and feeling concerned.
Evelyn shook her head. Just as she was about to discuss about joining the Kyte Group with him, she saw Hubert walking by in the distance.
If it were just him, Evelyn wouldn't have cared. What caught her attention was the person next to him, Natalie.
Someone she had almost forgotten, yet here she was, seeing Natalie again.
"Ms. Kyte." Hubert approached Evelyn.
"Mr. Diaz, you're too kind. I'm just a figurehead," Evelyn responded with a smile, not saying much more.
She had once genuinely considered marrying Lucia off to Hubert. After all, neither Hubert nor Lucia were good people, and they were a perfect match.
But now, everything was different.
"Hello, Ms. Kyte," Natalie said, pretending it was their first meeting.
Evelyn glanced at her and sneered, "Ms. Barns, let's not pretend to be strangers. We were quite familiar before."
Hubert was stunned by it, then frowned. "Do you know each other?"
"Mr. Diaz, I..." Natalie wanted to explain.
"Of course, we know each other," Evelyn said coldly, without offering any further details. Her tone made it clear that she knew Natalie and didn't like her at all.
Hubert could sense it. Though puzzled, he didn't press the issue immediately.
"Congratulations, Ms. Kyte, on successfully taking over the Kyte family." He had come mainly to congratulate Evelyn. Despite some past unpleasantness, he saw potential future collaboration opportunities.
