Chapter 497 I Feel Sorry For You

Father and daughter sat in silence for a long while. Just as Evelyn started to suspect that Blake might shield Dora, he finally spoke up.

"I'll make this right," Blake declared.

Evelyn eyed him skeptically, "And what exactly does 'making it right' entail? Surely, you're not suggesting she just apologizes to me."

Evelyn didn't hold her breath for an apology from Dora—it was unlikely, and frankly, she didn't care for such a hollow gesture.

"What would you have me do?" Blake inquired, sensing that Evelyn had her own ideas.

Leaning back on the sofa, Evelyn chided, "What can I possibly do to you? If you turned me away right now, I'd have no recourse, would I?"

Before the confrontation, she hadn't expected Blake to take revenge on her behalf; she merely wanted him to be aware, to ensure that the incident wouldn't go over smoothly within the Kyte household.

"Evelyn, I had no knowledge of this. Had I known, I assure you, I never would have allowed it," he explained. His feelings for Dora were virtually nonexistent; how could he permit her to hurt his own daughter?

But to Evelyn, that was beside the point. "She's your wife. You can't just claim ignorance and wash your hands of everything. It isn't that simple."

"You're right," admitted Blake solemnly. "No matter what, as a Kyte, her actions are our actions. Whatever compensation you seek, it's yours." The guilt weighed heavily on him; he had already regretted being absent during Evelyn's childhood and now was tormented by Dora's near-destruction of her.

Blake wanted nothing more than to eliminate the threat that Dora posed, but for now, he was limited to making amends with Evelyn.

Evelyn had been waiting for just such a concession. She never expected Blake to act against Dora, nor did she think herself valuable enough to warrant it.

"You said it," said Evelyn, locking eyes with him, a mix of resolve and determination to hold him to his words.

Blake nodded, a gesture of unwavering support, "Anything you ask of me that I can do, you have my yes."

A degree of determination colored her voice as she laid out her terms, "I want one of the cybersecurity companies under the Kyte Group, and I intend to move into the Kyte estate." These were aspirations she had pondered before arriving.

The particular firm in question was thriving, but more importantly, it posed boundless potential for the future. Evelyn was ambitious to broaden her enterprise, and a single fashion design company was not going to cut it.

As for moving into the Kyte home...

It was a calculated move to needle Lucia and Dora.

The words nearly struck Blake mute.

He had braced for Evelyn to demand a lesson be taught to Dora, or perhaps a public claim of her status as a Kyte, yet her actual request was neither.

She was after a company and a residence in the Kyte household.

To Blake, this was no larger than a trifle.

"What's the matter? Too difficult?" Evelyn's patience waned with his silence, her demand - in her eyes, and certainly for the likes of the Kyte family - was a mere drop in the ocean.

"No!" Blake was quick to dismiss the thought, "Not at all. I just feel it's below you."

He was sincere. Blake considered that Evelyn might be tempering her desires out of consideration for his predicament, which made him all the more protective of her.

Oblivious to his train of thought, Evelyn countered with a light-hearted smirk, "If that's your worry, then why not throw in another one of the Kyte-owned fashion houses?"

Once secured, she could merge it with her own Evelyn Fashion Design Company and move the headquarters to Columbia - another strategic move to fortify her growing empire.
