Chapter 941: Are You Deliberately Going Against Me

When Craig heard the word "fate," he scoffed. "Fate? Seriously? They haven't talked in ages and just randomly bump into each other?"

Evelyn raised an eyebrow at Ruby and whispered, "Is he jealous?"

Ruby pouted and whispered back, "I don't care."

Ruby didn't care what Craig thought. She felt she and Alex were meant to be. After all these years, they still met. If that wasn't fate, what was?

"How about we all grab a meal sometime?" Dermot, who had been quiet, suddenly suggested.

Craig shot Dermot a hostile look, as if asking what he meant.

Dermot just smiled and didn't answer.

Dermot never planned to align with the government, but after this, he saw the need to plan ahead. Alex was young, full of potential, and had no background. To move forward, Alex needed support, and Dermot thought he could be that support.

Soon, the car stopped at the mall, and they headed straight to a restaurant.

While waiting for food, Evelyn and Ruby left the table. Craig glared at Dermot. "Why invite Alex to dinner? You know I don't like him. Are you trying to mess with me?"

"You're overthinking it," Dermot said with a smile, explaining his plan.

Craig remained indifferent. "With so many options in the police department, why him?"

Craig didn't want to support someone who could be his rival in love.

"Because he's the best fit," Dermot replied.

Alex had the skills, courage, and a heart for justice.

Dermot supported Alex not to cover for himself but to achieve his goals.

He saw himself as law-abiding, as long as no one provoked him. So he backed Alex to deal with those who didn't follow the law.

Craig was still angry, and Dermot tried to comfort him. "Instead of worrying about someone taking Ruby, why not be the best version of yourself? If she loves you enough, no one can take her away."

"Easy for you to say. If it were you, could you stay calm?" Craig remembered how flustered Dermot was when Joshua appeared.

Dermot coughed, feeling awkward.

It's always easier to comfort others than yourself.

Evelyn and Ruby returned, so they dropped the topic.

"This time, Randy took a big hit. With Gerald dead and Otis arrested, he won't let this go," Evelyn said, looking at Dermot with concern.

Dermot smiled calmly. "Don't worry, he still has another son and grandson. As long as he doesn't cross us again, he can enjoy his golden years."

If Randy decided to keep fighting, Dermot wouldn't back down.

But next time, who would die was uncertain.
