Chapter 486 In Case of Failure...
Two days later, in Colombia.
Grandpa Doyle's surgery was scheduled for now. Over the past two days, Evelyn had prepared the surgical plan and communicated several times with the doctors at the Colombian hospital. Once everyone was familiar with the procedure, they decided to proceed.
Early in the morning, Grandpa Doyle was wheeled into the operating room. Evelyn, dressed in her scrubs, headed towards the operating room.
Standing at the door, Lassie looked at her with reddened eyes, "Dr. Kyte, my grandpa is in your hands."
Evelyn nodded, not saying much else.
"In case..." Lassie started, seeming reluctant to voice her thoughts.
"In case of failure, I won't blame you. I know you've done your best." After a moment, she managed to express her thoughts.
It took a lot of courage to say those words, but to give Evelyn the freedom to operate without worries, Lassie decided to speak them, also to reassure herself.
Evelyn glanced at her and, without another word, entered the operating room.
The OR light came on, and many of the Baker family members waited anxiously outside. They were skeptical of Evelyn's abilities, yet hopeful for a successful surgery—a complex mix of emotions.
Not far down the hospital corridor, Geoffrey looked towards the OR, sucking up to the person beside him, "Director, those are the Baker family members, right? Wasn't it said that Mr. Doyle didn't need the surgery? Why are they..."
"It seems the Baker family lady went out of town to bring back a doctor for today's surgery," the head physician was evidently more informed.
Geoffrey looked surprised, "Our hospital's head physicians said there was no need for surgery, and a doctor from out of town dares to operate on Mr. Doyle? Isn't that just reckless for money?"
"Who knows? They insist on trusting that doctor; we can't do anything about it," the head physician replied, somewhat dismissively. He only hoped they wouldn't be too devastated if the surgery failed.
Geoffrey thought the Baker family had lost their minds. Who could outperform the surgeons at the Colombian hospital?
He didn't hurry off, instead choosing to wait and see the outcome of the surgery and whether the doctor would be beaten by the Baker family if it failed.
The surgery on Mr. Doyle lasted a long time, from morning till evening, and the Baker family's initial hope turned to ashen faces as time passed.
Could such a lengthy surgery really be successful?
Just then, the OR light went off, and many people crowded around at the same time.
Not only the Baker family but also some hospital doctors wanted to know the outcome—they all looked down on doctors from out of town.
A nurse came out, looking towards the Baker family, "Mr. Doyle, he..."
"How is my grandpa?"
"Was the surgery successful?"
"I knew that doctor Lassie brought in was unreliable!"
People were chattering, clearly convinced in their minds that the surgery had already failed.
Lassie was heartbroken but still scolded everyone, "Quiet down and let the nurse speak."
"Miss, please tell us. We're prepared for any outcome," Lassie said to the nurse, her face showing her sorrow.
The nurse, looking bewildered, took a moment before saying, "Everyone, Dr. Kyte says the surgery was very successful."
At those words, everyone was stunned again.
The surgery was successful?
Had they heard correctly?
