Chapter 270 What Are You Doing Here?
After the movie ended, Evelyn turned to Dermot and asked, "What did you think? Was it good?"
"It was good," he replied, looking at Evelyn.
When Evelyn turned around, she caught Dermot staring at her, as if he was saying she looked good instead of commenting on the movie...
She felt a vein popping on her forehead and couldn't help but snap, "Can you be serious for once?"
"I am serious," Dermot cleared his throat and continued, "The movie was really good and thrilling."
Even though he hadn't watched many movies, Evelyn's earnestness in watching this one made him believe it must have been decent.
Evelyn shrugged, deciding not to dwell on it any longer. "What do you want to eat?"
"You decide, I'm fine with anything," he said, as long as he was eating with Evelyn.
For a moment, Evelyn was unsure of what to eat. She looked around the mall, contemplating her options. "Let's explore first," she suggested.
"Yeah, no rush. We have plenty of time," Dermot agreed.
They casually roamed around the mall, searching for a restaurant to have dinner at.
Suddenly, Evelyn stopped in front of a restaurant, her gaze fixed on the busy people inside. If one observed closely, they would notice that she was particularly focused on one of the waiters.
"What's wrong?" Dermot followed her gaze and noticed that she was eyeing a young boy.
Evelyn's face turned grim, and she said,
Without answering Dermot's words, I walked straight into the restaurant and came in front of the young boy.
The boy noticed someone standing in front of him and instinctively looked up. When he saw Evelyn, he immediately froze in place.
"Dr. Kyte?" he asked uncertainly.
"John!" Evelyn was a bit angry. "Aren't you supposed to be at school at this time? Why are you working here?"
John immediately lowered his head and didn't look at Evelyn or respond to her words.
"Did you drop out of school?" Evelyn couldn't think of any other possibility.
Upon hearing this, John lowered his head even further.
Seeing his reaction, Evelyn knew she hadn't guessed wrong. She was both heartbroken and angry. "Why did you drop out? Didn't I tell you to come to me if you have any difficulties?"
John was the boy who nearly died because of his stepmother, and despite not needing brain surgery, he had the surgery anyway. If it weren't for Evelyn saving him in the end, he probably wouldn't be alive now.
It was also during that time that Evelyn learned about John's hardships. She knew that after his father remarried, he didn't care about him anymore, and the new stepmother abused John. Even when she wanted to harm him, his father wouldn't intervene.
Evelyn felt sorry for him and worried about his future, so when John was discharged from the hospital, she specifically asked him to come to her if he faced any difficulties.
She never expected that this kid not only didn't come to her but also dropped out of school to work in a restaurant. It was simply infuriating.
"Stop what you're doing and go back to school immediately!" Evelyn reached out and took the cloth from his hand.
John had no choice but to look up, his eyes reddening as he looked at Evelyn. "Dr. Kyte, this is my own business, please don't interfere."
"I can ignore you, it doesn't affect me, but have you thought about the fact that if you really choose to drop out and work, you will regret it for the rest of your life when you grow up?" Evelyn sincerely advised, hoping that he wouldn't choose the wrong path.
Evelyn wasn't someone who liked to meddle in other people's affairs, but when it came to someone's future, especially someone she knew, how could she turn a blind eye?
John's hand trembled slightly. He knew that Evelyn was saying all this for his own good, but... he had no way out either.
