Chapter 969: The Doyle Group
The atmosphere in Doyle Manor was tense.
Randy had lost his eldest son, and now his eldest grandson was in prison. He'd never faced such setbacks in his life.
In the living room, James and his kids sat in silence.
Jeffery glanced at his dad, then his grandpa, and finally at his sister. "Melissa, when can we leave?"
They'd been called over for dinner, but after eating, they weren't allowed to go. Jeffery hated staying at Doyle Manor and moved out as soon as he could. He rarely spent this much time there.
Melissa glared at him. "Shut up; don't you get what's happening?"
Randy clearly had something to say, likely about the family's recent troubles. Instead of thinking about that, her brother just wanted to leave. If Randy found out, he'd be furious.
Jeffery looked upset. He had plans with friends tonight and didn't want to miss them.
But he didn't dare speak up. He didn't want to anger his grandpa.
After a long pause, Randy sighed. "James, you know what's been going on with the Doyle family, right?"
"Yes," James nodded.
"What do you think?" Randy asked, not expecting much from James.
James was careful but too indecisive to achieve much. But now, Randy had no other choice.
James looked at his dad. "Someone's targeting the Doyle family, spreading bad news to cause panic."
The Doyle Group's stock had been plummeting, losing billions in market value. But that wasn't the main issue. The focus was on calming the current unrest.
"Yes, you're right," Randy knew who was behind it but didn't say.
He told James, "With your brother gone and Otis in prison, the Doyle family depends on you."
Randy didn't fully trust James's abilities but had no choice but to train him. Both his sons were smart; they just needed more patience and guidance.
"Don't worry, Dad. I won't let the Doyle family fall into someone else's hands!" James said, taking on the family's problems.
Randy nodded, thinking that if James handled this well, he'd officially hand over the Doyle Group to him. By then, Dermot's objections wouldn't matter.
After all, Randy controlled the shares. He could give them to whoever he wanted. No matter how capable Dermot was, he couldn't change Randy's mind.
When Jeffery left Doyle Manor, he took a deep breath and looked at James. "Dad, are you really taking over the Doyle Group?"
"What else can I do? If I don't, should we hand it over to Dermot?" James thought Dermot was an outsider.
Jeffery didn't care much about family matters, but Gerald's death had hit him hard. "I get that, but I'm worried about Dermot..."
James reassured him, "Don't worry, I can protect myself." Besides, would Dermot really dare to kill him again?
James doubted it. Dermot wouldn't risk spending the rest of his life in prison.
