Chapter 691: Does It Really Work That Well?
"You don't know Ruby?" Evelyn could hardly believe her own words, but Dermot's reaction was indeed as such.
Dermot quickly regained his composure and sneered, "Who is she? Is she worth my time to get to know?"
“What's wrong with you, Dermot? Ruby is my closest friend, and you've met her before. You know her. Why are you acting this way all of a sudden?" Evelyn couldn't comprehend Dermot's behavior as if he had never encountered Ruby before.
Evelyn's words made Dermot realize that despite he had do extensive research, there were still many gaps.
For instance, Ruby.
She was indirectly linked to him through Evelyn, even though they had known each other in the past. However, he had no recollection of her now.
Dermot, reluctant to let Evelyn know about his amnesia, dismissively remarked, "What if I'm acquainted with her? I'm not invested in her. Do I need to bother with her?" While he didn't refute knowing Ruby, it was evident.
He simply displayed disinterest in Ruby and her matters.
Evelyn frowned, feeling that something was off, but she couldn't pinpoint what it was.
Taking a deep breath, Evelyn suppressed her doubts temporarily and asked, "Since you're not interested in her, why are you here? Surely, you’re not here out of concern for me?"
"Of course not," Dermot denied it without a second thought, but after denying it, he was puzzled himself. Why was he here?
He overheard the receptionist taking a call and discovered that Evelyn had phoned a doctor, suspecting she might be in trouble, prompting him to follow her.
But why?
He didn't like Evelyn. Whether she was in trouble or not had nothing to do with him.
Evelyn looked at him suspiciously. Dermot's reaction was too abnormal. "Are you sure your psychological issues are really resolved?"
"Of course," Dermot nodded and added, "I have to thank you, actually. I must say, the psychologist you recommended is very effective."
Evelyn likely did not realize that the psychologist she suggested to Dermot was Margaret. It was Margaret's call to Dermot on the day of the incident that led to his timely rescue. In a sense, he owed his gratitude to Evelyn.
"Does it really work that well?" Evelyn still felt that Dermot's current state was not quite right.
"The reason I followed you was indeed out of concern for you. After all, we are partners now. If something happens to you, all the information I gave you about the Roberts family would be wasted." Dermot changed the subject, avoiding further discussion about his psychological issues.
Upon hearing Dermot's words, Evelyn experienced a blend of emotions.
She felt a tinge of hurt, yet it also seemed fitting.
They were undeniably in a partnership now, and that was their sole connection.
Before Evelyn could speak, Dermot continued, "Also, stay away from the other members of the Doyle family. Do you really think Jeffery is as naive as he seems?"
Thinking of how Evelyn and Jeffery were chatting and laughing earlier, Dermot felt very uncomfortable.
Evelyn stunned, then realized that Dermot had probably seen her talking with Jeffery.
"Mr. Doyle, rest assured, I am a person of principle. Since I agreed to work with you, I won't collaborate with other members of the Doyle family."
Evelyn thought Dermot was worried about her betraying him.
This concern was unwarranted. Evelyn even thought that Dermot was being somewhat over the top. Despite conversing with Jeffery, her true intention was to assist Dermot.
If it weren't for that, why would she suggest to Jeffery to help Dermot?
However, Evelyn didn't plan to say this. Even if she did, Dermot wouldn't believe her.
