Chapter 656 What an Evil Scheme
Evelyn followed behind Dermot, asking, "Who are they?"
It was strange that there were no workers at the construction site.
"Most likely hires of the Roberts family. " Dermot didn't hide anything, as there was nothing to conceal.
Evelyn paused for a moment, then quickly realized.
The Roberts family had sent people to watch over the construction site, indicating that there was definitely something wrong there.
With this in mind, Evelyn turned around to go back. She hadn't figured out what the problem was yet.
Seeing this, Dermot grabbed her arm, furrowing his brow. "What are you planning to do?"
"I came here to figure out what's wrong with this construction site. Since I haven't figured it out yet, of course, I can't leave," Evelyn replied. Otherwise, her trip would have been in vain.
Dermot was speechless but didn't let go of her arm. "Aren't you afraid of being caught by those people? Don't you value your life?"
"I know what I'm doing." Evelyn felt that those people were probably just ordinary bodyguards from the Roberts family and shouldn't be too formidable for her to handle.
Due to his amnesia, Dermot didn't remember that Evelyn was skilled in combat. Seeing her determination, he felt somewhat annoyed. "You are quite stubborn," he said.
"This is my business. You don't need to worry about it." Evelyn shrugged off his hand, annoyed by Dermot's presumed authority over her.
Ignoring her, Dermot indifferently said, "You don't need to go. I've already figured out what's wrong there."
"Where's the problem?" Evelyn asked, surprised that Dermot had already discovered it.
Even more surprising was that Dermot seemed willing to tell her.
For some reason, a sense of anticipation rose in Evelyn's heart.
Perhaps this time, like when Benjamin appeared last time, Dermot was pretending to separate from her for her safety.
Based on her understanding of Dermot, he was capable of such actions.
"Underground," Dermot said lightly, the word lingered in the air.
Underground?
Evelyn was stunned. Dermot took out a handful of sand from his pocket and handed it to her.
Taking it, Evelyn understood immediately.
"So that's it." Evelyn chuckled. She knew that the Roberts family wasn't as kind-hearted as they seemed.
The land looked good, but due to geological issues, it was impossible to build tall buildings there.
The Roberts family probably discovered this, so they planned to deceive the Kyte family, pretending they hadn't noticed anything. Once the contract was signed, any issues found during development would be a shared loss between the two families.
What an evil scheme.
Returning to her senses, Evelyn looked at Dermot. "How did you become interested in this land?"
Could the Roberts family have also approached the Doyle family? They were quite audacious.
"If the Roberts family and the Kyte family cooperate, it will have a significant impact on the Doyle family." Dermot didn't want to see such cooperation happen and naturally tried to sabotage it.
He just didn't expect that this cooperation was already a trap and he wouldn't need to intervene personally.
Understanding the meaning behind Dermot's words, Evelyn suddenly became suspicious.
Was Dermot deceiving her? After all, it seemed like he didn't want the two families to collaborate.
"Believe it or not." Sensing her doubt, Dermot glanced at her and turned to leave.
Evelyn chuckled awkwardly and hurried to catch up. "I do believe you. It's a reasonable guess."
"To thank you for helping me just now, let me treat you to a meal." Evelyn stopped Dermot, feeling it necessary to have a proper conversation with him.
However, Dermot didn't want to get too involved with her. Every time he saw Evelyn, he felt an uncontrollable sensation, which made him uncomfortable.
