Chapter 1225: Are You Willing to Accept Me as Your Mother
After getting outta the slammer, Bella spilled Nathaniel's last words to Evelyn and said, "Don't sweat it about me. I raised Oscar, but he ain't really my kid."
"I get it. No worries, I know what to do," Evelyn replied over the phone.
But honestly, after hanging up, Evelyn didn't give it much thought.
Sure, she had that meal with Oscar 'cause of Bella, but that didn't mean she was gonna keep bending over backward for him.
Oscar knew he had to prove his worth if he wanted Dermot and Evelyn on his side.
If the perks were good enough, even if Oscar was a total rando, she and Dermot would back him up.
On the day Nathaniel was set to be executed, the media was all over the big shot from Seabrook City. Evelyn saw Nathaniel's name plastered on every site.
But who cared?
By now, Nathaniel was probably just waiting to kick the bucket.
She took a deep breath, feeling a wave of relief wash over her.
That evening, Blake invited her and Dermot over for dinner at Kyte Manor. Evelyn didn't turn it down; everyone was probably in a good mood today.
At Kyte Manor, Evelyn and Dermot didn't show up together. Blake had personally called Dermot, and after getting the call, Dermot ditched work and headed to the manor to help Blake prep dinner.
He wanted to score some points with his future in-laws, and Evelyn knew it.
"Evelyn, you made it." Bella had changed into new clothes, looking way different, kinda like the style in Blake's photos.
Hearing her voice, Blake and Dermot peeked out from the kitchen. "Go wash up, dinner's ready!"
"Okay," Evelyn nodded.
As she headed to the bathroom to wash her hands, Bella trailed behind, making Evelyn a bit uneasy.
"What's up?" She had talked to Bella about Nathaniel that morning, and now seeing her like this made Evelyn uncomfortable.
Bella shook her head, but her eyes were getting misty. "Evelyn, would you accept me as your mom?"
Evelyn paused mid-wash, then smiled. "Blood-wise, you are my mom. Whether I accept it or not doesn't change that."
"Evelyn, you know what I mean." Bella wanted more than just a cold, biological connection; she wanted Evelyn's heartfelt acceptance.
Evelyn didn't say anything, which spoke volumes.
Bella felt hurt but knew Evelyn didn't like her being all emotional. She swallowed her pain and asked, "What do you think about me and your dad?"
Evelyn thought for a moment. "Honestly, it's between you two. I don't really have a say."
"But you are my parents, and you've always had feelings for each other. There were too many hurdles before, but now they're gone. If you still love each other, then go for it."
In short, Evelyn hoped they could be together.
They were middle-aged now, and it was time to enjoy life.
She wanted them to be a bit happier.
