Chapter 373 The Past Doesn't Matter
"It's just breakfast, no need for manners." Dermot ate without feeling any guilt.
Evelyn pursed her lips but didn't say anything further.
Shortly after, Marina came out with a new breakfast, cautious not to get too close to them, and ate delicately at the edge of the table. Even though she was curious about Evelyn and Dermot's relationship, she wisely didn't ask too many questions.
"You came to find Evey for the Peterson family's matter, right?" Dermot suddenly spoke, his gaze once again falling on Marina.
The news of the Peterson family's bankruptcy was known to most people in Moris City.
Despite rumors of an alliance involving the Peterson family, Dermot believed that even with an alliance, the issue of their bankruptcy wouldn't be truly resolved.
Upon hearing Dermot's question, Marina instantly stiffened. "Mm."
She didn't deny it, even though it wasn't her intention.
But... Evelyn was always there to help the Peterson family, so Dermot's words weren't entirely wrong.
"The Peterson family is in such a dire state, and you have the nerve to seek help from her?" Dermot sneered, obviously thinking that Marina had ulterior motives.
His expression suddenly turned cold, emanating a chilling aura, which instantly filled Marina with fear.
"I... I'm not..." She stuttered, unable to articulate herself clearly.
Evelyn interrupted her, looking at Dermot. "It's not her asking for help, it's me offering to help."
Dermot glanced at her, evidently much gentler towards Evelyn. "You're kind-hearted."
"What's the matter? Do you have a problem with it?" Evelyn snapped, not sure why Dermot was getting angry.
The three of them continued eating breakfast, but the atmosphere was clearly not as relaxed as before, especially for Marina, who felt like time was passing slowly.
"Don't interfere with the Peterson family's matter, I will handle it," Dermot said suddenly, setting down his utensils.
Evelyn was surprised, and Marina was left stunned in her place.
"Do you think I can't handle it?" Dermot asked with a smile, mocking the fact that the Peterson family's problem was a huge challenge for ordinary people, but for
"He's not worth mentioning," Marina said to Evelyn, seeking her opinion.
But Marina was also taken aback, not understanding why Dermot suddenly said he wanted to help the Peterson family. This happiness came too abruptly, and she couldn't quite handle it.
"I know you can handle it, but..." Marina paused for a moment and then continued, "let me do it instead."
Marina didn't know why Dermot was helping the Peterson family, but Evelyn understood it all too well. It was merely Dermot not wanting to trouble her, saying he would help the Peterson family when in reality it was for her, Evelyn.
And that was precisely why Evelyn didn't want him to. She wanted to help Marina on her own, without involving Dermot. She didn't want to trouble him either.
"You?" Dermot raised an eyebrow, not angry at Evelyn's refusal. "Seems like I underestimated Dr. Kyte. Are doctors making that much money these days?"
"I can't have a side job?" Evelyn glanced at him and added, "Besides, I can borrow from Niall. I can gather the money somehow."
"Why make it so complicated when I can just handle it directly?" Dermot looked at her, feeling a bit uneasy now.
Evelyn put down her utensils and looked at him. "This is something I want to do for Marina. It doesn't need to trouble you."
"I don't find it troublesome," Dermot said. It was just a matter of money, and he had no trouble handling it.
