Chapter 1338 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (13)
Phoebe strutted out of the fitting room in a red cocktail dress. She'd been looking kinda rough lately 'cause of her illness, but dang, that red dress did wonders.
"So, how do I look?" Phoebe asked, a bit nervous. She couldn't even remember the last time she rocked a red dress.
Evelyn gave her a nod. "You look awesome. Let's roll with this one."
"Isn't it too much?" Phoebe wondered if red was a bit too extra for a baby shower.
Evelyn was about to reassure her when a snarky voice cut in, "Wow, that's bold. Planning to crash a wedding or something?"
Both Evelyn and Phoebe turned to see who it was.
Evelyn frowned, not recognizing the girl.
But Phoebe knew exactly who it was. "Brittany!"
Brittany Irvine, the second daughter of the Irvine clan. If it weren't for Phoebe, she'd be the top dog in the family.
So, Brittany had always had it out for her since they were kids.
Phoebe used to not give a damn, especially with Craig having her back.
But now, Brittany probably noticed Phoebe hadn't gone back to the Irvine family and knew she ditched her status as the Irvine princess, so she was feeling all high and mighty again.
Brittany sneered, "Phoebe, have you no shame? You had a kid out of wedlock and are shacking up in Aidan's place. You're a disgrace to the Irvine name!"
"No wonder Dad never liked you. You're just plain unlikable." She crossed her arms and lifted her chin like she was all that.
Phoebe wasn't one to back down. She didn't go looking for fights, but she sure as hell didn't run from them.
She stared Brittany down for a few moments and then shot back, "Too bad he didn't take you with him when he kicked the bucket, considering he liked you so much."
"Phoebe!" Brittany was fuming and raised her hand to slap her.
Evelyn, who'd been watching the whole thing, couldn't just sit there. She jumped up and grabbed Brittany's wrist. "You think you can just hit Aidan's girl?"
With that one line, not only was Brittany stunned, but Phoebe was also taken aback.
She couldn't even worry about Brittany's drama; she was too busy trying to figure out what Evelyn meant.
She was Aidan's girl? What was Evelyn talking about?
Was this Evelyn's idea, or Aidan's?
"Did Aidan marry her? They got nothing going on!" Brittany didn't dare to mess with Evelyn but wasn't ready to back down.
"So what if they're not married? She's still family. Who do you think you are to lay a hand on her?" Evelyn didn't know Brittany, but from this little encounter, she already couldn't stand her.
In this mess, Evelyn had to back Phoebe up.
Brittany wasn't ready to give up and said, "Ms. Kyte, Craig and Dermot have been tight for years. You should be on the Irvine family's side."
"Oh? And?" Evelyn raised an eyebrow, finding it kinda funny.
"You shouldn't be helping her," Brittany insisted.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh, looking at Brittany like she was an idiot. "Craig and Dermot might be old pals, but so what? How do you know Craig thinks like you? Does he know you're here to mess with Phoebe?"
Evelyn figured Craig still cared about his sister Phoebe and wouldn't let the Irvine family give her grief.
Sure enough, Brittany's face changed, and she shut up real quick.
