Chapter 238 What Happened?

the phone rang, startling both of them and snapping Evelyn back to her senses. She moved to the side, avoiding Dermot's lips that were just inches away.

"Aidan, what's wrong?" she answered the call.

"Where are you? Are you okay?" Aidan's voice came from the other end, sounding a bit urgent and worried.

Evelyn frowned, sensing that something was off in his tone. "What's wrong, Aidan? Did something happen?"

"N-nothing," Aidan stuttered, unsure of how to say it.

"Aidan, what happened?" she wasn't stupid, and from Aidan's tone, something must have happened.

Aidan on the other end seemed to fall into silence. he said, "It's nothing. We just had a fight with Phoebe, and she might have misunderstood something. I'm worried she might come to find you."

"A fight?" Evelyn found it unbelievable that Aidan would fight with someone. She had never seen him like that before.

"It was just a misunderstanding, so just ignore her if she comes to you. Don't believe anything she says," Aidan instructed, but his worry didn't dissipate.

Evelyn didn't know much about their situation, so she didn't say much. "Okay."

After hanging up, Evelyn put away her phone and turned her head only to see Dermot looking at her. "Was that Aidan?"

"Yes," Evelyn nodded.

"He called at the right time," Dermot couldn't help but mock, hating him to death on the inside.
Evelyn ignored him and regained her composure. "Take me back."

"Evey,..." Dermot tried to speak.

"Take me back!" Evelyn interrupted him, her voice getting louder, showing some anger, but her flushed cheeks revealed her true emotions.

Dermot didn't say anything else and started the car, driving towards the apartment.

After a short while, the car stopped at the entrance of the apartment. Evelyn was about to open the car door and get out, but Dermot stopped her. "Evey, once again, I apologize for what happened with Ruby Kite before. I'm not asking for immediate forgiveness, just hoping that you won't keep me at a distance."

"Oh," Evelyn replied, her emotions unreadable.

Evelyn got out of the car and walked into the complex, disappearing from Dermot's sight.

Inside the elevator, Evelyn was still pondering Dermot. Should she trust him or not?
Ding.

With a sound, the elevator arrived, and she walked out, coming to her own door.

To her surprise, there was someone standing at the doorway, who seemed to have been waiting for her for a long time. Upon seeing her arrival, the person widened their eyes and put on a hostile look.

Evelyn: "???"
"Phoebe?" She spoke in confusion, incredulous.

Just a moment ago, Aidan called to say that Phoebe might come to find her, and now she had come.

"Huh, I thought you wouldn't dare to come back." Phoebe scoffed, crossing her arms and looking unfriendly at Evelyn.

Evelyn became even more puzzled, "What do you mean, I wouldn't dare to come back? And why do I have trouble understanding what you're saying?"

"Don't understand?"

Phoebe laughed, walking towards her. "It's just the two of us here. Is it interesting to keep pretending?"

"No, what am I pretending?" She laughed, as she had been amused. This person had been quite nice to her before, so how had she turned into her enemy in the blink of an eye?

Seeing that she didn't admit it, Phoebe became even angrier. "What's going on between you and Aidan? He's your brother, don't you find it disgusting to treat him like that?"
