Chapter 1189: Are You Using Me
Evelyn was all set to bounce, but she wasn't about to roll solo. She shot a look at Oscar and said, "Hey, can you give me a lift back?"
"Give you a lift?" Oscar's face scrunched up, clearly not thrilled with the idea.
Evelyn flashed a grin and said, "Nathaniel's crew is probably lurking around. The second I step out alone, they'll pounce."
"It's not that I'm scared of his goons, but I gotta hustle back to see my dad. No time to mess around, you get me?"
Oscar was clueless at first, but then it clicked. "You're using me?"
"Using you? Nah, we're partners, right? It's your job to have my back," Evelyn shot back, raising an eyebrow like it was no big deal.
Oscar wasn't happy, but he had to roll with it. He really didn't want anything bad happening to Evelyn right now.
They both got up and bounced from the private room. Evelyn hopped into Oscar's car, catching the folks outside off guard. "Evelyn's with Mr. Flores. Should we still make a move?"
"Nope. Can't mess with Mr. Flores."
So, the hit was called off.
When Oscar dropped Evelyn at the villa, Nathaniel's guys had already been handled. Howard was there, directing the cleanup. Seeing her, he walked over. "Ms. Kyte."
"Is my dad okay?" Evelyn asked.
"Mr. Kyte's fine. Good thing you had enough people, and Mr. Doyle showed up just in time," Howard said.
"Mr. Doyle?" Evelyn was confused, then saw Dermot coming out.
She was surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you, so I came over." Knowing Evelyn had beef with the Flores family, he was concerned. So after wrapping up Doyle Group stuff, he rushed over.
Evelyn felt touched and walked toward Dermot. "Thanks, but I could've handled it."
As they chatted, Oscar, still hanging around, grumbled, "Evelyn, I brought you here, and you don't even offer me a coffee?"
"Mr. Flores, you should go back and think about my proposal." Evelyn had no time for him now.
Evelyn and Dermot headed into the living room, leaving Oscar standing there, feeling kinda lost.
But he didn't say anything, just got in his car and took off.
He'd been on the fence before, but seeing Dermot now seemed to make up his mind.
With the Doyle and Kyte families backing him, his odds were way better. Missing this shot might mean it never comes again.
In the living room, Dermot, a bit jealous, held Evelyn. "We've been apart for like a minute, and you already got another dude? Not cool, Evelyn."
"He's Nathaniel's son; it was just business." Evelyn rolled her eyes, thinking, can't he see I'm not into Oscar?
But Dermot was still salty. "I don't like other guys around you. I'm upset, and you need to fix it."
Evelyn sighed. "Dermot, cut it out." She tried to calm him down.
No luck. Dermot clearly wanted more.
Feeling stuck, Evelyn gave him a quick peck on the lips. "Happy now?"
"Not even close." Dermot pulled her in, deepening the kiss with a bite on her lips.
