Chapter 1124: You Never Thought About Staying Here
Mary was floored. Joshua was actually booting her off the island.
She'd been Joshua's right-hand woman here. Getting the boot meant even if she worked at the company, it wouldn't be the same.
"Joshua! You can't do this! I've been loyal to you for years. How can you just kick me out?" Mary was in total disbelief.
This island was her baby too. She and Joshua had even talked about buying it as their base. And now, she was getting the boot?
But Joshua, cold as ice, just said, "Get out! I can't put up with this anymore!"
"Joshua!" Mary gritted her teeth, her love for him turning into pure hate.
Seeing Mary about to charge at Joshua, Brandon grabbed her and dragged her out of the castle. "Chill out. Mr. Garcia's pissed right now. Going against him will just make it worse."
"What am I supposed to do? He's kicking me out!" Mary sobbed, her heart shattered.
Brandon sighed, clueless about how things got this bad. "How about you head to Danista for a few days and cool off? I'll try to talk to Mr. Garcia."
"Is there any hope?" Mary was doubtful. Just thinking about Joshua's icy stare made her feel like she'd never be allowed back.
Brandon wasn't sure either but said, "Don't worry. We've both been with Mr. Garcia for years. He can't be that heartless."
"But you really crossed the line this time," Brandon added.
Mary snapped, "How did I cross the line? I love him! Would I have done this if I didn't?"
"We all know you like Mr. Garcia. But he doesn't like you, and you know that," Brandon sighed. "Mr. Garcia likes Evelyn. This was probably his only shot with her, and you blew it. Of course, he's mad."
Evelyn had left, and unless Joshua went back to Golombia to find her, their chances were slim, and meeting again would be tough.
Brandon doubted Joshua would go to Golombia for Evelyn.
They all knew Evelyn didn't like Joshua. No matter how hard he tried, that wouldn't change.
"I thought after Evelyn left, maybe he'd like me," Mary said, confused about where she went wrong. Was loving him her mistake?
Brandon had no choice but to get Mary to leave first. Then he headed back to the castle.
But Joshua was no longer in the living room.
Seeing the light on in Evelyn's room upstairs, Brandon sighed. Joshua probably wouldn't sleep tonight.
In Evelyn's room, Joshua stood silently on the balcony.
The sudden ring of his phone snapped him back to reality. He didn't want to answer, but for some reason, he did.
It was an unknown number. Normally, he'd hang up, but today...
He answered and after a long pause, asked, "Evelyn, is that you?"
"It's me," Evelyn replied. "Sorry for leaving without saying goodbye."
Joshua gave a bitter smile. It really was Evelyn. His gut feeling was right.
"I get it. You never planned to stay," Joshua said, self-deprecating. He'd been fooling himself, thinking if he tried hard enough, Evelyn might stay. But deep down, he always knew she wouldn't.
