Chapter 1220: Maybe You Are Right
In the car, Evelyn stared out the window, still mulling over Bella's thank you. Her heart felt like it had a ton of bricks on it, making it tough to breathe.
Dermot was driving and could tell Evelyn was in a funk. "Evelyn, thinking about your mom?"
"Yeah, I was just thinking she didn't really do anything wrong back then. Her life's been rough these past years, maybe even worse than mine. But I still can't call her my mom. Is that too harsh?" She'd been wrestling with this since she left the Kyte family, but still had no answers.
Dermot eased up on the gas and said, "Chill out. I bet your mom gets your inner struggle."
"It's cool if you can't call her mom right now. You've got time to figure it out. I believe that as long as she treats you right, one day you'll call her mom without a second thought."
Evelyn got what Dermot was saying, but it didn't ease the turmoil inside. "I know what you mean. I just feel like she didn't really do anything wrong."
"Yeah, she didn't, but neither did you. So don't beat yourself up. Just go with your gut," Dermot replied, not wanting Evelyn to be bummed out.
Evelyn sighed and rubbed her temples. "Maybe you're right. I'm probably overthinking it."
Maybe after hanging out with Bella more, she'd be cool with calling her "mom," just like she was with calling Blake "dad." Everything just needed time.
"How about we hit up the shopping street? You love the snacks there, right?" Dermot suggested.
Evelyn shot him a look. "Didn't you hate those places?"
"Yeah, but now I think they're kinda cool." The main thing was that Evelyn liked them, so he was down.
"Alright, let's go. I'm actually craving some street food." She couldn't even remember the last time she had some.
Dermot then turned the car around and headed to Golombia Snack Street.
With the weather warming up, more people were out and about. The snack street was packed and buzzing.
With Dermot watching her back, Evelyn dove into the crowd, her worries fading with each step. The energy of the place lifted her spirits as she made a beeline for her favorite snack spot.
Evelyn grabbed a slice of pizza and asked Dermot, "Wanna try?"
"Sure," Dermot nodded, and Evelyn fed him a bite.
At that moment, Dermot was rocking a black suit, and Evelyn was dressed to the nines. They stood out, catching a lot of eyes.
Someone snapped a pic and posted it online with the caption: [This must be what they call a perfect couple. They look amazing together!]
At first, the photo didn't get much attention. The internet's full of stuff, and good-looking people aren't exactly rare.
But once someone spilled who they were, it blew up.
While Evelyn and Dermot were still wandering the snack street, news about them was already trending online.
Even though they weren't celebs, they were getting star-level attention.
But Evelyn and Dermot had no clue. They wandered around until late, and after stuffing themselves, they finally headed home.
As soon as they got back to the villa, Dermot's phone rang. It was Todd.
Dermot was surprised but picked up right away. "What's up?"
