Chapter 100

""Do you two... mind us joining? Are we intruding?"" Joseph glanced around with a low, seductive tone.

""Not at all, you're most welcome,"" David said, signaling the waiter to bring over the menus.

The table, adorned with a bouquet of roses, soon felt crowded as the four of them settled in.

Cassie reached to move the flowers to her side, but Joseph was quicker and handed them to a nearby waiter instead.

""Keep them away, I'm allergic to pollen.""

Cassie thought she must have heard wrong. When she bought flowers to decorate her house, she never noticed any allergy. He must be faking it.

""Oh, Mr. Hernandez has a pollen allergy,"" David managed to force a smile.

""Yes, especially to pink flowers,"" said Joseph calmly, opening the menu with deliberate slowness.

After they all ordered, David tried to make conversation, ""You know, I've always been curious, Mr. Hernandez, why did you turn down my case last time?""

With a preemptive strike fueled by fear that Joseph's blunt words might thoroughly offend David, Noah interjected, ""I've just been swamped recently.""

Cassie, who had been silently focusing on her cake as they spoke, finally pieced together Joseph's puzzling occupation. Turns out, he was a lawyer, and evidently a darn good one at that.

She rued the realization. Being with a lawyer meant that in the event of a divorce, you might not walk away with anything.

No wonder Joseph had been so smug, saying that she could forget about divorcing him if he didn't agree to it.

Oh good lord, what kind of devil had she tangled with?

Wait a minute... What was this devil up to now? His foot was stealthily brushing against her leg under the table.

Flushing with embarrassment, Cassie kicked back.

Unexpectedly, Joseph stared at her, impassive, and asked, ""Miss Brooks, why would you kick me?""

All eyes at the table turned towards her.

With a teasing wink, Noah chimed in, ""Despite Joseph's good looks, you're here on a date with Mr. Foster, you know.""

Cassie glared at Noah, clearly irritated. ""It's too cramped under here. I didn't mean to; someone has to give us some space.""

""So you think we're intruding on your date?"" Joseph's voice had an edge to it.

""Not really, I just don't care for such jokes... After all, Mr. Hernandez isn't my type,"" Cassie said with a resigned shrug.

David lit up with a smile, his good mood now obvious, ""Mr. Collins was just having some fun; I know you didn't do it on purpose.""

""Right. I need to use the restroom,"" Cassie muttered, desperate for an excuse to get up from her seat.

Before long, Joseph stood as well: ""I need to make a call.""

Cassie lingered in the bathroom intentionally, taking her sweet time.

However, seeing the tall figure leaning against the door and smoking, she felt utterly exasperated."
