Chapter 1498 She's Not As Pretty As You
"You had amnesia before, but I didn't. Since I'm back, it means I'm still willing to give us a shot."
Cassie squeezed his hand, looked up, and smiled. "Joseph, let's give it our all. I like who you are now, and I liked who you were in Silverwood. You were so handsome back then, whether as a lawyer or a CEO, you always had that charm. Go back to where you belong. During the day, we can both shine in our own worlds. At night, I'll be right there with you, okay?"
She whispered the last part in his ear.
Joseph felt a rush from Cassie's words. "Cassie."
Just then, the elevator hit the first floor.
Joseph quickly hit the close button, leaned down, and kissed her passionately.
Cassie wrapped her arms around his neck and stood on her tiptoes.
After a long kiss, Joseph finally pulled back and said in a husky voice, "Cassie, I don't want to go back to the Hernandez Group. I want to be a lawyer."
Cassie was taken aback. "Why?"
"Honestly, I prefer being a lawyer, but back then, I wanted to prove myself to the Hernandez Family." Joseph smiled. "After everything, my mom's handling the Hernandez Group pretty well now. When Oliver grows up, he can take over. Plus, you're amazing. I want to lean on you in the future."
"Come on, even as a lawyer, you can make bank from a single case. It's a sweet gig."
Cassie straightened his shirt. "But I support you in doing what you love. Being a lawyer is awesome. I love seeing you in a suit, arguing cases. It's super hot."
"Cassie, thanks for having my back." Joseph kissed her forehead before leaving.
Cassie watched him walk away, then headed back upstairs.
Laura gave her a knowing look. "Your lipstick's smudged. Did you use a kiss to convince Joseph?"
"When it comes to men, you gotta be a bit tough and then give them some sweetness."
Cassie casually reapplied her lipstick in front of Laura.
Cassie's glowing and beautiful face made Laura envious. "Looks like you've got Mr. Hernandez wrapped around your finger."
"We're pretty solid now."
Cassie smiled. "Let's call Bernice tonight and have dinner out to celebrate your newfound freedom. How about it?"
"Sure." Laura nodded. "But after dinner, I need to head back. I want to spend more time with Maeve."
"Got it. Since it's cold, let's do some barbecue. There's a new spot nearby that's really popular."
At six in the evening.
Cassie and Laura arrived first and got a private room. Not long after, Bernice showed up, wearing sunglasses, a hat, and a scarf, all bundled up.
After taking them off, Laura noticed she looked thinner. "Bernice, haven't you been resting well lately?"
"Yeah, a bit tired." Facing Lucas every day, how could she rest well? Bernice almost wished she were dead.
But Bernice didn't want to tell Laura and Cassie. She didn't want them to worry, and she was afraid they'd look down on her.
Really, in her current situation, Bernice couldn't even look up to herself.
"Bernice, stop thinking about Megan all the time. Cassie and I already have a plan to get back at her. Just wait."
Laura picked up the menu. She hadn't been out to eat in ages, so she went all out and ordered a ton.
But when the food came, it just didn't hit the same as the barbecue she had with Derek last time.
She suddenly remembered how Derek was always so attentive, making sure she had everything she needed.
Oh right, Derek was supposed to meet another girl tonight.
'Looks like Derek might have a girlfriend soon. Guess no more barbecue nights with Derek.' For some reason, that thought made Laura a little sad.
It was like her loyal dog had found a new playmate.
Just as she was thinking this, Derek sent her a "so bored" GIF.
Laura quickly replied: [Bored? Aren't you meeting that girl? Handpicked by me and your mom. Is she cute?]
Derek: [You and my mom picked her?]
Laura: [Yeah, didn't you say you liked curvier girls?]
Derek: [You're so smart.]
Laura: [I've always been this smart. Don't thank me too much.]
Derek: [She's not as pretty as you.]
Laura's lips curled up. Just as she was about to reply, Derek sent another message: [And not as curvy as you.]
Laura got annoyed and replied: [Why don't you just say she's not as fat as me? Can you stop calling me fat? I'm not that fat, am I?]
Derek: [Are you mad? I didn't say you were fat. I said you were curvy. Curvy, you know? The cute kind.]
Laura: [Get lost. I don't believe you. Anyway, in your eyes, I'm just fat. I'm going on a diet.]
Derek: [Don't diet. Health is the most important. I think you look better now than before.]
Laura: [Watch your words. I looked good before too.]
Derek: [Alright. You're the most beautiful in the world.]
Derek: [I'm really bored to death. We have nothing in common. In half an hour, call me so I can find an excuse to leave.]
Laura: [Isn't that rude?]
Derek: [I don't like her. Should I give her false hope? I'm so handsome. What if she falls deeply in love with me? You wouldn't understand this kind of trouble.]
Laura laughed.
Cassie and Bernice both looked at Laura, half-smiling.
"Who are you chatting with? One moment you're laughing, the next you're angry. It's like you're in love," Cassie said.
"Don't be ridiculous. I'm just chatting with Derek. He's meeting a new girl today. Derek is very narcissistic." Laura quickly explained.
"You guys chat even while eating? You must be close." Cassie raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, we're pretty close. Although sometimes Derek's words are annoying, I know he's just joking." Laura looked at her phone and smiled.
Cassie and Bernice exchanged a glance, both feeling a bit strange.
Halfway through the barbecue, Bernice's phone kept buzzing with WhatsApp notifications.
Bernice glanced at it and put it aside.
But soon, her phone rang.
Bernice took her phone outside to answer.
Cassie blinked and said to Laura, "Looks like Bernice has something going on."
"That's normal. Bernice is so beautiful, of course, men would pursue her. I hope Bernice starts a relationship soon and stops thinking about Megan," Laura said, munching on a piece of vegetable, "This barbecue isn't as good as the one I had with Derek last time."
