Chapter 949 I Am Back
David's words struck Cassie's mind like cannonballs, one after another. Joseph had, indeed, committed a crime, and none of this was her will.
When someone broke the law, they deserve to be punished.
She had no reason to hesitate or feel conflicted. Even if Joseph went to prison and the Hernandez family collapsed, it had nothing to do with her.
"Cassie, I understand how embarrassing it is for you to bring these things up to the police. It's embarrassing for me, too," David said bitterly. "But we can face the future together. I will never leave you in this lifetime."
Cassie felt increasingly guilty as he spoke. The better David treated her, the more pressure she felt.
Five hours later, the plane landed on the Chapman family's lawn, where Aiden and Oliver had been waiting for a long time.
Especially Oliver, who had never been out of touch with Cassie for so long, ran over and threw himself into Cassie's arms.
"Mama." Oliver hugged Cassie tightly, his eyes red. "I missed you so much."
"Oliver, have you been very worried about me these days?" Cassie kissed his forehead tenderly. "I'm fine now. I'm back, and I won't leave you again."
"Mama, I hate him." Oliver looked up, his eyes filled with hatred.
Oliver would never forget how Joseph knocked his mama unconscious and then took her away from his world. These days, when he went to school, he even heard some teachers gossiping about his mommy. They all said that Joseph had taken his mommy and was surely no longer pure, that David would definitely divorce her, and that no man in this world could accept Cassie anymore.
Oliver felt an indescribable fear. He only wished for his mommy to have simple happiness, but the selfish Joseph had destroyed all of it.
Seeing the hatred in Oliver's eyes, Cassie was startled. "Oliver..."
Seeing her lips move slightly, she could hate Joseph, but she didn't want her children to hate their biological father. After all, this was between her and Joseph, and she didn't want her children to be scarred.
But with David and Aiden around, she couldn't say much.
"It's good that you're back. You probably haven't eaten well all day. I'll have the kitchen prepare something delicious," Aiden said, leading them into the villa.
Cassie went upstairs to change clothes first. On the dressing table in the bedroom was the phone she hadn't taken with her. She quickly entered the password and found numerous missed calls.
Cassie first called Laura. "I'm back."
"Oh my God, you're finally back," Laura said, almost crying with excitement. "I thought you wouldn't come back until Joseph got you pregnant."
Cassie fell silent. Laura was almost right.
"You didn't... get pregnant with Joseph's child, did you?" Laura suddenly asked nervously.
"No," Cassie replied, a bit annoyed. She took the phone and walked out to the balcony.
"Then did you sleep with Joseph?" Laura continued to ask curiously.
Cassie felt terrible, gritting her teeth. "Enough. Can you ask about something else?"
"I'm just interested in these things; it seems quite thrilling," Laura said with a laugh.
"Get lost," Cassie said, unable to bear it any longer. "This past month, my conscience has been tormented every day, okay?"
"Actually, you shouldn't think like that. You were forced," Laura comforted her. "It's not like you cheated on purpose."
"Shut up," she shouted.
The word "cheated" was like a stab to Cassie.
"Alright." Laura changed the topic. "Anyway, Joseph can't do anything to you anymore."
Cassie bit her lip and asked complicatedly, "Is the Hernandez family really in such a dire situation now?"
"It's very dire. But I heard from Michael that Joseph plans to compensate those partners. Actually, he has no choice; those companies are global giants with plenty of money to fight lawsuits. If he compensates them, the Hernandez family will be left with almost nothing. To put it bluntly, Joseph has really lost this time. But there's no helping it; Liam betrayed the Hernandez family," Laura stated.
"Liam betrayed the Hernandez family?" Cassie felt her mind was spinning.
"You didn't know?" Laura said. "I heard this from a senior executive at the Ocean Blue Group. Apparently, the Lundrigans Group's chip was stolen from the Hernandez family's Purple Chip data, and it's identical. An insider infiltrated the Hernandez group's lab and deleted all the data, leaving them without the evidence to sue the Lundrigans Group for plagiarism.
She added, 'Moreover, coincidentally, the Lundrigans Group handed over the chip's usage rights in Serida to the Chamberlain family. Now, the Chamberlain family's status has skyrocketed, making them one of the top families in Silverwood. In short, this whole thing is a collaboration between the Chamberlain family and the Lundrigans Group against the Hernandez family."
Cassie was shocked. "The Chamberlain family is too despicable. Business competition is normal, but resorting to plagiarism to achieve their goals is too much. But what does this have to do with Liam?"
"Liam's father, Marcus, is the largest shareholder in the Chamberlain Group. Now, Marcus is the chairman of the Chamberlain family. Marcus even publicly announced that Liam would officially change his name to Liam Chamberlain," Laura stated.
Laura clicked her tongue and continuned, "It's obvious. The biggest beneficiary after the Chamberlain family came to power is Liam. If it wasn't Liam, who else could it be?"

"I'll call Liam and ask. I also want to check on Sophia," Cassie replied.
She felt increasingly uneasy as she listened.
"Go ahead. Recently, many people in the Hernandez family have had accidents. I wonder if anyone is taking care of Sophia," Laura said.
"Who else has had an accident?" Cassie asked.
"Walter had a stroke from anger and is now crippled. Richard was beaten into a fool by people from the Chamberlain family," Laura stated.
