Chapter 1351 There's No Need to Force It Any Further

Michael couldn't even bring himself to look up.

He just couldn't figure out why he always ended up hurting Laura with his words and actions. He didn't want to be that guy.

Caroline let out a long, exasperated sigh.

Even though Michael was her son, he had taken her hits, scoldings, and even being kicked out, but he never changed.

She was at her wit's end. "What's the point of saying sorry to us? You need to apologize to Laura, her parents, and your kid. You better hope the baby is born healthy and beg for Laura's forgiveness. Think about it, you two only got together because of the baby and had to get married to save the Jude family's face. Now that the baby's here, Laura might not want to stick around."

Michael felt a surge of irritation. "Mom, the baby's born. How can we get a divorce? It's not good for the kid."

"Hah, you think that, but Laura might not," Caroline shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Michael muttered, "I'll talk to Laura."

Bernice and Cassie exchanged a look.

They were both pissed at Michael, but with the Jude family there, and since they'd already given Michael a piece of their mind, they didn't want to add more.

All they could do now was wait for Laura to have the baby.

After what felt like forever, things finally calmed down inside.

Soon, a nurse came out holding a baby. Knowing the folks outside were a big deal, the doctor smiled and said, "Congrats, Laura had a healthy baby girl."

"Thank you so much," Caroline quickly took the baby.

Michael eagerly leaned in. His daughter had just come out of Laura, all wrinkled like a little monkey. "Is this my kid? I'm good-looking; why's she so ugly?"

"Shut up," the Jude family snapped in unison.

They probably knew nothing good ever came out of his mouth.

Michael felt wronged by the scolding, and Caroline glared at him. "Newborns all look like this. She'll get cuter as she grows. Besides, look at those little eyes, nose, and mouth. The Jude family doesn't have bad genes."

"That's right," James nodded, then asked, "How's Laura? Why isn't she out yet?"

"Her perineal area tore, the doctor is stitching her up," the nurse said with a smile. "Please hand the baby back to me, I need to give her a bath."

"I'll go with you. Michael, you stay here and keep watch," Caroline said, leaving with the nurse.

Not long after they left, Lucas showed up.

His eyes scanned the room, lingering a bit longer on Bernice next to Cassie.

Bernice frowned and instinctively moved a bit behind Cassie.

Cassie looked up and smiled at Lucas, nodding.

Lucas raised an eyebrow, walked over to Michael, and patted his shoulder. "Congrats, man."

Michael was still a bit out of it. Hearing Lucas's voice, he smiled. "Lucas, you're late. You missed my daughter. She was just born and the nurse took her for a bath. I still can't believe it, I'm a dad now."

"Be a good dad from now on," Lucas said quietly. "It's not easy for a woman to give birth. Be good to Laura."

"I definitely will," Michael nodded, "I suddenly feel different; I got responsibilities now."

After what felt like forever, Laura was finally wheeled out. She looked pale, her forehead all sweaty, and she seemed weak and out of it.

Michael leaned in, his heart aching, his lips moving, "Laura, you okay?"

Laura's eyelashes fluttered, but she straight-up ignored him.

Michael felt a pang of discomfort.

Once the nurse pushed the bed into the VIP room, she said to Michael, "Could you help move your wife to the bed?"

Michael bent down to help, but Laura opened her eyes and glared at him with pure disgust, "Don't touch me."

Michael's body stiffened. With everyone watching, he said in a low voice, "If you don't let me help, how will you get to bed? Laura, don't be stubborn. You're weak."

"I'd rather crawl over myself than let you help me."

Laura tried to sit up. She had just been stitched up, and every movement made her body tremble in pain.

Cassie, who had been through this before, quickly held Laura, "Bernice, let's lift Laura together."

The women together moved Laura to the bed.

Just then, Caroline came in holding the clean baby.

Laura saw the baby placed in front of her, feeling all sorts of emotions.

She definitely liked the kid.

But she couldn't forget that it was because of this baby that she married the jerk Michael.

Thinking about how Michael's actions had caused her to give birth prematurely, she couldn't help but tear up.

She wanted a divorce but couldn't bear to leave the child she had worked so hard to bring into the world.

But continuing to live with Michael felt exhausting.

"Michael," James signaled to him.

Michael obediently walked to the bedside and apologized, "Laura, I'm sorry, it was my fault before. I was a jerk, I shouldn't have said those things to upset you."

"You weren't wrong. I do have a thick waist," Laura coldly interrupted him.

Caroline chimed in, "Laura, I just hit him. This jerk just talks nonsense. Now that you have a child, things are different. Every couple has a rough patch. Once you get through it, things will be better.

Michael, you can't act like this anymore. Laura worked hard to give you a child, it's not easy. From now on, you have to work wholeheartedly for the child and give the child a happy family. You don't want your kid to grow up in an unhappy single-parent family, do you?"

"Mom, I will," Michael quickly nodded.

Cassie secretly admired Caroline's skillful way of speaking. She not only scolded Michael but also reminded Laura of the downsides of raising a kid in a single-parent family.

Laura felt bad, but after a while, she spoke, "Michael and I only got married for the child's sake and Carl's reputation. Now that the child is born and Carl's position as president is secure, I don't think we need to keep pretending anymore."

Michael's face changed, "I didn't mean it before. If you hadn't talked about finding a new relationship, I wouldn't have been so angry."
