Chapter 8 Not showing any cleavage or butt

In the evening, a group of people were dining at a restaurant, discussing the new cases the law firm had recently taken on. Joseph was listening absent-mindedly when his phone rang. Cassie had sent a photo of Dakota lying under warm yellow light, happily munching on some dried fish.

Cassie: [Joey, enjoy your night out. Look how well I'm taking care of Dakota.]

Joseph felt helpless, thinking Dakota was such a greedy little cat, easily won over by others.

At half past nine, when Joseph stepped inside, he was taken aback. Was this still his home? Had he walked into the wrong place?

The room had transformed—the black sofa now had peacock blue cushions, the white dining table was covered with a green wave-patterned tablecloth, and a glass vase with pink hydrangeas was on display.

There were many green plants and fresh flowers around the house, even hanging plant baskets on the balcony.

"Joey, you're back," Cassie said, emerging from the guest room in a burgundy silk nightgown with white bunnies. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, and the hem of the gown swayed, revealing her legs.

Joseph's gaze deepened, and he furrowed his brows. "Who allowed you to dress like this?" he asked sternly.

"What's wrong with it?" Cassie twirled around innocently. "I'm not showing cleavage or anything inappropriate, just my knees and lower legs. Is that not okay?"

Joseph was exasperated. She wasn't showing cleavage, but she wasn't wearing anything underneath, and her nipples were visible through the fabric, making him want to nibble on them. He suppressed this desire and forcefully shifted his gaze away. "I agreed to let you move in, not to redecorate my house."

"Isn't it better this way? It feels more like a home now. It was too cold and empty before," Cassie pouted, pointing to the cuts on her hands from moving the plants. "I got cut moving all these plants, and you're scolding me."

Glancing at her hand, Joseph saw a few small scratches.

"You deserved it," he retorted before retreating to his room.

Cassie made an annoyed face at his back. If it weren't for her plan to become Arthur's aunt-in-law and seek revenge on Arthur and Olivia, she wouldn't have subjected herself to this.

The next day at seven o'clock, Joseph opened the door to see Cassie brushing her teeth in the bathroom.

"Joey, good morning. Are you going for a run?" Cassie asked, glancing at him. Despite Joseph's bad temper, he was undeniably handsome. He made even a simple tracksuit look like a classic brand endorsement, living a disciplined life.

"Yes," Joseph replied, slightly surprised. In his experience, girls her age loved to sleep in, yet she was up early.

"After your run, come back for breakfast. I'll make it," Cassie said in a wifely tone. "The breakfast outside isn't hygienic."

Frowning, Joseph asked, "I don't need it. When do you plan on moving out?"

Cassie's pretty face stiffened, and Joseph directly stated, "Although we're married, I don't want too much involvement with you. Don't waste your time on me." With that, he left.
