Chapter 237

"Upon returning to the sanctuary of their home, Cassie tenderly unclasped the diamond necklace that graced her neck. Seated beneath the soft glow of the desk lamp, she held it up to the light, her eyes reflecting its brilliance. ""It's exquisite, truly flawless,"" she murmured, her voice filled with awe.

Joseph, standing behind her, couldn't resist the opportunity to tease. ""I recall you once claiming to have no interest in jewelry,"" he reminded her, a playful lilt in his voice, ""that it was merely 'second-hand.'""

A rush of warmth flooded Cassie's cheeks, causing her to stutter in response. ""I... I just believed it was excessively costly, you understand? Thirty million, that's a lifetime of labor.""

Joseph, ever the proud man, snorted in response. ""Arthur Lewis spares no expense for his woman, so why should I fret over the cost?"" His voice was firm, his conviction clear. ""Money holds no value to me; the only thing of importance is your happiness.""

Cassie's eyes widened in comprehension. He was attempting to rival Arthur Lewis. But that was acceptable. The more he strived to outdo Arthur Lewis, the more it indicated he cared for her.

""Joey,"" she began, her voice steady, ""I must confess, Arthur Lewis doesn't hold any significance to me anymore. I no longer harbor feelings for him. I love you.""

With that, she spun around, her arms encircling his neck as she leaned in to plant a soft kiss on his cheek.

His heart danced in his chest, skipping a beat. In the past, his focus had been solely on amassing wealth, but now, it seemed he had finally discovered its purpose.

A sly grin tugged at the corners of his mouth as he cast her a suggestive glance. ""Is that all? No other way to express your gratitude?""

Cassie's understanding dawned, her head dropping as her ears flushed a deep crimson.

Joseph chuckled, sweeping her up into his arms. ""Didn't you just express a desire to spend time with me?""

""No...,"" Cassie protested, her face matching the color of her ears. For all her bravado, she was simply a classic example of her bark being louder than her bite.

""Are you suggesting you were dishonest earlier?"" Joseph's voice dropped to a husky whisper as he tenderly stroked her chin, his tone as hauntingly seductive as a cello's melody.

Her heart pounded under his touch, her blush deepening. Quickly shoving him away, she hastily concocted an excuse. ""Didn't you mention earlier you were still hungry? I'll prepare some food for you.""

As she hastened away, Joseph was left with a wistful smile lingering in his eyes.

Emerging from the shower, Joseph was greeted by the sight of a bowl of steamingfood. It had been some time since he had tasted her late-night cooking, and he relished every bite. The unique flavor of the filling, a secret recipe she had perfected, was always a delight.

As Cassie gently towel-dried his damp hair, she watched him savor the food and couldn't resist a playful jibe. ""You know you adore my cooking, despite your initial pretense of indifference. You feigned disinterest, but your act was transparent.""

Joseph felt a twinge of embarrassment at being labeled ""too cool"" or ""tsundere,"" terms that seemed ill-suited to his stature.

With a swift movement, he scooped her onto his lap, a frown marring his features. ""Who's pretending? Repeat that accusation, I dare you.""

""It's you, don't even attempt to deny— Mmph..."" Her protest was abruptly silenced by his assertive kiss, leaving her breathless. When he finally pulled back, she playfully punched his shoulder, ""See, you are too... cool.""

But her teasing words were drowned out by another passionate kiss, his firm hands preventing her escape.

Cassie found herself both amused and slightly irritated. This man was so controlling, not even allowing her to voice her opinion.

Suddenly, the room spun around her as he carried her to the bed.

Joseph, clad only in a bathrobe, pinned her beneath him, his well-defined physique barely concealed beneath the robe.

His voice was a low growl as he looked down at her, ""You wanted a good look, didn't you? Well, now's your chance.""

Heat flooded Cassie's cheeks. He remembered her teasing words even now.

His body was a sight to behold, toned but not overly muscular, sensual and commanding, particularly after a shower. The intoxicating blend of his natural scent and the soap was heady, leaving her breathless."
